Mum-of-two Gemma Bird (pictured), from the UK, shared why you need to stop storing milk in the door of the fridge if you want it to last longer; the coolest part is on the bottom shelf

The reason why is because cold air sinks, so it collects at the bottom, meaning the bottom shelf is the coldest.

‘Milk! With prices rising you don’t want to waste it,’ Gemma wrote on Instagram.

‘Did you know this? You can also freeze milk too.’

According to the mum, if you’re worried about the bottle leaking, the easiest thing to do is put it on its side with the handle facing upwards.

‘If that doesn’t work, then you can pour it into a bottle that doesn’t leak – there’s no need to waste it,’ Gemma said.

Thousands who saw the clip were quick to thank the mum for sharing it, writing ‘great tip, thanks for sharing’ and ‘I didn’t know this’.

‘Milk doesn’t last long enough in our house for it to go off, but good tip as there is so many other items in the compartments in the fridge door!’ one person wrote.

Others shared their own tips and tricks to make food last for longer:

‘A friend taught me to peel the foil seal off and put it inside the cap. Lasts longer that way. Swear by it now,’ one person wrote.

‘My mum is a widow and lives on her own and buys the large bottles, decants into smaller pint size bottles and freezes her milk. She’s 80 now and by doing this has never had milk waste and also it has never made her ill,’ another added.

Chantel Mila, from Melbourne, shared a clip to TikTok showing the quick and easy hacks to make fresh produce last for longer

She begins by suggesting to store herbs in water to stop them from wilting. She also suggested placing a damp towel over greens to keep them crisp.

Previously, mum-of-two Chantel Mila shared how she keeps her fresh produce good for longer.

She begins by suggesting to store herbs in water to stop them from wilting.

Many fresh foods are plants and need water to stay fresh – and this will keep them tastier and fresher for longer.

She also suggested placing a damp towel over greens to keep them crisp.

The paper towels absorb excess moisture from the greens and keep them from getting too slimy.

It best to also put them in a sealed container to keep out excess air from circulating and slow down the wilting process.

Thirdly, Chantel advised to chop carrots and celery so they’re ‘snack ready’.

She then suggests submerging them in water to keep them crisp.
