When Angelina Jolie and Billy Bob Thornton showed off vials of each other’s blood worn around their necks during their brief relationship in the 1990s, many people were horrified by the idea – but it seems some lovebirds were left inspired.
One such couple is US-based TikToker Dani Apples and her boyfriend, who gifted her a stunning ruby-red pendant on a chain – with a catch.
In a TikTok video, Dani reveals her partner went to an ‘oddities fair’ in the city and visited a stall which makes jewellery out of blood samples.
After toying with the idea of a blood-filled ring, Dani revealed she instead settled on a necklace which was a little more affordable.
The origin story of Dani’s necklace left people divided, with some commenting on the video to say they wanted one of their own, while others weren’t so keen – but mostly, viewers were simply brimming with questions.
TikToker Dani Apples, based in the US, has revealed her boyfriend bought her a necklace partially made from his blood
At the beginning of the video, Dani’s boyfriend puts the heart-shaped pendant encrusted in gems around her neck and secures the chain at the back.
Dani, obviously thrilled with the gift, smiles as she adds it to her chic all-black outfit.
She tells viewers: ‘My boyfriend went to a bloodsmith to get a necklace made from his blood.’
Dani then explains her boyfriend visited a fair in the city and went to a stall where the bloodsmith mixes people’s blood samples with resin to create all kinds of jewellery, including rings, necklaces and bracelets.
The clip shows Dani’s boyfriend scrolling through the price book to see what he could get his hands on after donating his blood – and the footage revealed glimpses of the costs which ran up to $500 in some cases.
However, although Dani says she ‘loved’ the rings, she agreed they were too expensive and chose a necklace instead.
Thankfully, Dani revealed that her boyfriend isn’t afraid of needles and had his blood drawn on site at the fair
Thankfully, Dani adds: ‘My boyfriend isn’t scared of needles so he got his blood drawn onsite like a champ.’
In the final clip, Dani holds up the heart pendant to the camera and says: ‘Here is the beautiful result that I am completely obsessed with.’
Dani’s deep red necklace left her viewers divided, with some people saying they thought a bloodsmith is ‘the coolest f****** job’, whereas others questioned if the practice is even legal in the US.
However, one woman who is a huge fan of the bloodsmith’s work said she was upset Dani had shared him with her 124,000 TikTok followers because she was ‘gatekeeping him’ to make her wedding rings.
Others branded the practice as akin to ‘witchcraft’ – and one person asked where on earth the blood samples had come from to make the display pieces on the stall.
