A new mother has hit out at her family for criticising the ‘unequal’ names she’s given her twin daughters.
The anonymous parent, from the UK, shared her dilemma on Reddit’s ‘Beyond the Bump’ forum shortly after welcoming her twins.
The woman – who is only 17 years old – said her grandmother made a series of cruel comments after being told of the names.
She wrote: ‘My twin girls are Juno Tamsin and Freya Joy.
‘According to my narcissistic arsehole of a grandma, Freya’s name is “so much prettier” and Juno will be “so jealous.”‘
The new parents has called her twins Freya Joy and Juno Tamsin – but her grandmother argued that the names are ‘unequal’
However, the new mother says she was particularly bothered by what her grandmother said next.
The woman continued: ‘She also said that, and this is a WORD FOR WORD QUOTE, “Silly names like that are all you can expect when babies have babies”.’
After the upsetting interaction with her grandparent, the new mother turned to the Reddit forum to see if others agreed with what had been said about her children’s names.
She added: ‘Now correct me if I’m wrong, but while their names might not be really really common I don’t think they’re ridiculous at all.
‘It’s not like they’re called Juenough and Freiyah or Seaweed and Fishfood. They’re just normal, strong, pretty, uncommon names.’
The mother concluded the post by saying: ‘WHY AND HOW do people think it’s acceptable to say this stuff??’
The post amassed hundreds of comments from other members of the forum – with the vast majority siding with the new parent over the grandmother.
One replied: ‘They are beautiful names and really well matched I think. They’re both goddesses, both two syllables, both on trend. I think you nailed it.’

Taking issue with the grandmother’s argument, another added: ‘Unequal would be like naming one Moonstone and the other Todd.
‘They’re not unequal just because they’re from different pantheons. They’re great names.’
A third said: ‘Juno and Freya are both pretty! I actually like Juno better, but that is a matter of personal taste! Ignore the noise.
‘Do your best to be a good mother, and that’s enough.’

Meanwhile, a fourth joked: ‘I suggest telling grandma you considered her feedback and changed their names to seaweed and fish food!
‘That’ll give her something to complain about.’
What’s more, another argued: ‘Sweetheart, there’s no winning here. Your grandma wanted something to lash out about so she grabbed onto the names.
‘If it wasn’t the names it would have been how you dressed them or something else.
‘You’re 17 with babies so you’re wrong in her eyes, nothing you do is going to be good enough. If you manage to let go of her (or anyone else’s) impossible expectations you’re going to be so much happier.’
