My new man has no courage – is he too nice for me? | The Sun

DEAR DEIDRE: AFTER years of dating bad boys, I finally thought I had found The One when I took a chance on a nice guy.

Yet there’s a catch – he has no courage.

He’s 27, I’m 25 and we’ve been together for just over a year.

Our relationship has been amazing, and he’s everything that all the other men were not – kind, thoughtful, patient, and good at communicating.

Yet I can’t get one thing off of my mind.

Last week when we were travelling home from dinner a man started to catcall me on the train.

I was clearly uncomfortable, but instead of coming to my defence he squirmed in his seat and refused to even look me in the eye.

Ever since I can’t shake this underlying thought that he will never be able to stand up for me.

I know it may sound silly but I want to be able to rely on my partner to protect me.

I love him dearly, but I’m wondering if this could be a dealbreaker.

Laura’s new man becomes controlling

DEIDRE SAYS: If you truly love him then you owe it to him to work on your relationship.

It’s understandable that you wanted him to stand up for you, but if you don’t communicate your needs then he will never learn.

Take the time to have an honest conversation with him and explain how you feel.

It could be that he suffers from anxiety, or perhaps he was trying to protect you by not rising to this man.

My support pack Looking After Your Relationship should help.
