People have only just realised they have been using box straws the wrong way their entire lives.
A post by TodayYearsOld, which shares new discoveries and trends, revealed on Twitter that the way most people use the straws – with the small bend at the top to angle it towards you mouth – is wrong.
In fact, it is suggested we should put the bend at the bottom so it sits in the carton.
According to proponents of this unconventional method, this configuration ensures that you can enjoy every last drop of your juice instead of wasting the juice that your straw can’t reach.
A woman looking perplexed. Many are now confused over how best to use a straw when it’s with a carton
People reacted with shock to the news.
One wrote: ‘My world just turned upside down.’
Another wrote: ‘I’m just finding out. I’ve done this my entire 28 years being alive.’
One wrote: ‘I tried this a few times growing up, believe it or not. It works okay until you get to the bottom of it and the pointy end prevents a suction that you want to get all the juice out.
‘The flat end helps create the binding/suction.’
But some refused to believe it.
One wrote: ‘That’s not right. There’s a sharp edge on the long end of the straw for penetrating the seal.
‘That’s why we use it this way, not because we all collectively decided to do it ineffectively.’
Another wrote: ‘I refuse to believe this.’
And one said ‘This is incorrect.’
Some refused to believe it, saying it was made up but others said the ingenious hack made total sense
It comes after a number of people were left baffled after learning the unique backstory behind a chocolate bar’s name.
Snickers is a household name that every chocolate lover will have tried at least once – it’s even dubbed ‘the world’s best-selling chocolate bar’ by the Mars Company.
If you’ve never had a Snickers, you will at least recognise the famous slogans from their adverts, including ‘You’re not you when you’re hungry’ and ‘Get some nuts!’.
The iconic American chocolate bar is made of nougat, topped with caramel and peanuts, and encased in milk chocolate.
It first hit the shelves in 1930 and according to the Mars Company website, it’s still ‘at the top’.
It all started back in 1911, almost 20 years before snickers was born – Frank and Ethel Mars started a sweets factory, but failed to make it work.
However, their next idea, the ‘Mar-o-Bar’ company, which later turned into Mars Company, was a fantastic success after Milky Way chocolate bar became their first popular product.
It meant the couple had some spare cash to splash, so they decided to buy a huge 3,000-acre horse breeding farm in Tennessee, according to Mashed.
To celebrate their achievement, they called their new property ‘The Milky Way Farm’.
After Ethel’s favourite horse, Snickers, died just before the couple introduced a new chocolate bar, the pair decided to name it in his honour.
The bar was manufactured in Chicago and sold for just five cents.
Snickers was actually named the Marathon mar in the UK between 1967-1990 because the original name rhymes with ‘knickers’ – so to avoid controversy, they decided to change it.
In 1990 Mars wanted universal names for its products so the firm changed it back to Snickers.
Some UK fans refused to buy the renamed bar because they were so attached to the Marathon name, even though the recipe was the same.
In 1968 the full-sized Snickers bar we know today was created, following an increase in ‘satisfaction levels worldwide’.
Then, in 1989, the Snickers ice cream bar was created.
