EVER fancied running up a mountain?
We reviewed some of Rab's new Skyline range to see how it would hold up against the elements and if it's worth investing in for your next expedition.
- Men's Kinetic Ultra Waterproof Jacket, £180 – buy here
The low cloud blew in off the coast and engulfed us halfway up the mountain.
Within seconds the rain slowly started to fall. I whipped on my new Rab Kinetic Ultra Waterproof Jacket as the incredible view of Glencoe's beautiful valley was lost in a sea of grey.
But at least I would not be getting wet today.
This fantastic piece of kit – part of Rab's new Skyline collection – is designed for mountain runners and hikers who want to move fast no matter the weather.
Weighing just 9oz and rolling up into a squished ball no bigger than a can of Coke, it is created from ultralight materials that are sturdy enough to withstand the elements.
Rab claim their Proflex fabric creates a breathable waterproof that combines the protection of a traditional hardshell with the comfort and stretch of a softshell.
It did not disappoint.
The jacket has a lovely trim fit but its stretchiness allows a huge range of movement.
I loved wearing it as we scampered up the mountain and honed in on the summit.
Rab Aeon 27 Daypack, £110 – buy here
As the rain eased I stowed the waterproof in my Aeon 27 daypack – made from 50% recycled fabric.
Perfect for long days when you need to carry plenty of kit, this bag is a truly brilliant piece of gear.
It looks cool too and drew a few admiring comments on the hills.
Built for all mountain adventures on two wheels or two feet,it allows you to move at pace without any clunkiness over technical terrain.
The air flow system helps keep your back cool thanks to it's semi-rigid structure that moulds to your shape.
At 27L there’s enough space to bivi overnight or stay in a bothy.
It has two walking pole attachments, a walking axe loop, and my favourite part- stretchy pockets that are ideal for stashing wet gear you have just peeled off, or layers you may need in a hurry.
I also liked the zipped hipbelt pockets that held spare my gels and it comes with a tight rain cover that doesn't billow and add drag in a storm.
I loved it.
Men's Windveil Pull-On Jacket – £80.00 – buy here
On the descent the rain eased but the wind bore into us up.
I fished out my Weindveil Pull-On so I could move faster in a slightly lighter layer.
It was already a favourite of mine from trail runs and long runs in the rain and it was great to test it in the mountain conditions.
Weighing just 4oz this quick drying and fast wicking top regulates your temperature without breaking your flow.
Again a nice close fit, this top offers huge breathability that comes into its own on ridgelines.
It's a piece of kit that I will wear again and again on runs, hikes and adventures in the city as well as in the great Scottish highlands.
