During his first state visit, King Charles attended a royal banquet with some of his German relatives also in attendance which is "significant", a royal expert said.
Commentator Richard Fitzwilliams, speaking exclusively to OK! said the Royal family are "more open now" about its German ancestors and the King's speech to the Bundestag" gave us a rare in depth insight into Anglo-German relations".
King Charles and Camilla, the Queen Consort arrived in Germany, Berlin on Wednesday for three days to start the King's first overseas state visit.
This is the first state visit by a British monarch in eight years, the last was by the Queen in 2015.
On arrival, the monarch and his wife were greeted by a 21-gun salute and a fly-past by two fighter jets after they emerged from the ministerial plane Voyager and paused at the top of the steps.
As a mark of respect, two Typhoon jets escorted the plane carrying Charles and Camilla, their entourage and a large number of media for a period as it approached Berlin-Brandenburg Government Airport.
On the same evening, King Charles and Camilla attended the state banquet hosted by German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
They opted for special evening wear as they put on a united front to meet and greet various important figures including former State Chancellor Angela Merkel ahead of the dinner.
Among the guests at the state banquet included some of the Royal's German relatives which are Charles' cousins.
Talking about the relative's attendance Royal expert, Mr Fitzwilliams said: “I do think it's significant that some of the Prince’s German relatives were at the banquet, the Royal family is more open now about its German antecedents".
Charles has a number of German first cousins who are children of Prince Phillip's sisters and he has previously spoken about how he 'cherishes' these German ancestry ties.
His direct first cousins include Prince Rainer of Hesse, Princess Clarissa of Hesse, Prince Georg of Hanover and Prince Ludwig of Baden.
Charles is also closely related to Bernhard, hereditary Prince of Baden and Prince Philipp of Hohenlohe-Langenburg.
It is said a number of his German cousins were in attendance at the state banquet as special guests.
Mr Fitzwilliam went on to say that the King's speech to the Bundestag on Thursday which also made history "was a masterclass in professionalism, charm and linguistic excellence".
Adding that "King Charles gave us a rare in depth insight into Anglo-German relations and the royal family is now more at ease with its German antecedents".
King Charles visiting Germany first "did act as an extra cachet" because the Queen first visited Germany in 1965 and her last state visit was to Germany in 2015", Mr Fitzwilliam said.
“The work of the Prince of Wales is very highly respected because his first climate change speech was in the 1960s and the Germans are particularly keen on this particular issue, they regarded to the utmost importance" he continued.
Adding "so the Prince’s credentials are absolutely impeccable because he’s been talking about this for over 50 years and now of course it's so central to the policy of various governments".
The state visit should have begun at the weekend in France but due to violent demonstrations taking place across the country which led to hundreds of arrests and police being injured, the visit had to be postponed.
The decision to cancel the trip was made amid reports the King may have been targeted during further demonstrations planned by protestors to coincide with the visit.
Royal expert, Mr Fitzwilliams said the King would have been “very disappointed" not to have visited France.
He continued “He would have been very disappointed by the fact the French visit was called off, they couldn't guarantee security obviously, they didn’t say that but it was obvious”.
So instead the King began the visit in Germany with a priority to strengthen and improve relations with Britain’s European neighbours and to stand together with Ukraine.
Mr Fitzwilliams said: “The two issues are tremendously important, you've got the fact that Britain still needs a certain amount of fence building, goodwill, post Brexit but also you've got this terrible war in Europe and very significantly it made total sense to have France and Germany".
He also went on to add “The emphasis on this visit is very much to the future, there’s no doubt about it".
