Ryan Reynolds new home! Inside the sleepy village where Hollywood star is buying house’

It isn’t often that a Hollywood A-lister is willing to swap the bright lights of New York for a tiny village straddling the English and Welsh border, but one star who intends to do precisely that is Deadpool & Fall Guy star Ryan Reynolds.

Hot on the heels of his ongoing success with Wrexham FC, a club he purchased back in 2020 alongside Always Sunny In Philadelphia Rob McElhenney, Ryan has reportedly splashed the cash on a quaint 4 bedroomed property worth a cool £1.5 million as he hopes to be closer to his team.

“Ryan is moving to Marford and it’s all the locals can talk about, " reports The Sun:. "His house is on the poshest road.”

Tucked away in sleepy Marford, a quaint but picturesque village located in Clwyd, on the very edge of the border, the new property is a far cry from life in the big apple and the luxury Ryan is used to.

Back home in New York, the star shares a £4.3million pad with his wife Blake Lively and their four children, and while there’s no word yet as to whether any permanent move is on the cards, the new property in Marford is, at the very least, a solid base to work from whenever he’s in town to cheer on Wrexham.

But what is Marford really like? Here’s everything you need to know about the stunning village.

Where exactly is Marford?

The village of Marford is an unsung gem of the Welsh countryside, and covers just 750 acres of land in total.

Located five miles away from Wrexham, the village has historically sat on the verge edge of the border between England and Wales, and serves as the unifying point between the Welsh country of Clwyd, and neighbouring Cheshire.

The village is so close to Cheshire in fact, that some of Chester’s iconic landmarks are clearly visible from it, including buildings such as Eaton Hall, Chester Town Hall, and even Chester Cathedral.

What sort of facilities does it have?

As you might imagine, living in a small village means a reduced number of amenities, but Marford still has everything you need for a quiet and enjoyable life.

Food provisions are on hand from a local Co-op store, while unwinding at the end of a long day is also possible at one off the village’s two pubs, The Trevor Arms or The Red Lion.

One notable attraction that Marford has that sets it apart from other villages in Wales, is its very own nature reserve that has formed on the site of a disused quarry.

Nowadays, the site has been colonised by many wild plants, butterflies and moths, including the stunning silver studded blue butterfly.

It was even designated a site of sit of special scientific interest (SSSI) in 1989 before being purchased by the the North Wales Wildlife Trust the following year.

Interestingly, the village itself also has no doctors surgery and no schools, but both are easily accessible in the slightly larger village of Gresford nearby.

Does it have any famous residents?

While it’s safe to say that Ryan Reynolds is easily the biggest name to move to Marford, the village is no stranger to stardom.

One notable resident who hails from the town is former The Clothes Show and Blue Peter presenter Tim Vincent.

Marford was also previously the home of notable local historian Alfred Neobard Palmer, who at the turn of the 20th century published a number of books that documented the history of Wrexham and North Wales.
