S Club 7's Paul Cattermole has tragically died aged 46.
The singer, who was due to be reuniting with the band for a 25th anniversary tour, was found dead on Thursday afternoon at this home in Dorset.
In a statement from Paul's family and S Club 7 to OK!, it said: "It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of our beloved son and brother Paul Cattermole.
"Paul was found yesterday, 6th April 2023 at his home in Dorset and was pronounced dead later that afternoon.
"While the cause of death is currently unknown, Dorset Police has confirmed that there were no suspicious circumstances. Paul’s family, friends and fellow members of S Club request privacy at this time."
S Club 7 topped the charts in their prime and had fans following their every move. With hits including Reach, Don’t Stop Movin’ and S Club Party, no school disco or wedding party was complete without the sounds of Rachel Stevens, Paul Cattermole, Jo O'Meara, Bradley McIntosh, Hannah Spearritt, Jon Lee and Tina Barrett.
But despite selling over 10 million albums worldwide, since going their separate ways in 2003, the journeys experienced by the band members have been difficult.
Paul Cattermole’s bankruptcy battle
Appearing on Loose Women in 2018, Paul admitted that after leaving the band he’d run out of money and needed to borrow a shirt for the interview.
After being turned down from shows such as I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! because he wasn’t “famous enough”, Paul sold his Brit Award on eBay, admitting that: “There’s bills to pay.”
During the interview, the signers also revealed that he’d been applying for jobs outside of showbiz.
He said: “If I'm cool with delivering Domino's pizza, then yes I am, if that's what it is.
“I've tried to [do reality TV], but they haven't wanted me for whatever the reason.”
It was sadly announced on 7 April that Paul had died at the age of 46.
Jo O'Meara’s “complete breakdown”
She provided the lead vocals on most S Club tracks, but that didn’t pay off for Jo when the group disbanded.
After appearing on Celebrity Big Brother in 2007, Jo’s reputation crumbled as she was accused of racism and bullying towards fellow housemate Shilpa Shetty.
“I lost my career. I lost my home. I lost everything and I’m still trying to rebuild today,” she told The Sun in 2021.
“I had a complete breakdown and it wasn’t a nice time for everybody involved. If I could go back in time and change what happened then I would, but I can’t.”
Hannah Spearritt’s breast implant agony
After getting breast implants in 2013, Hannah was left suffering with sickness and crippling fatigue.
Despite being pleased with the results, in 2018 Hannah told the Mail On Sunday how her health began to decline: “Within six months my hair started to fall out in clumps.
“Then I started sleeping more and more – eventually 22 hours a day. I couldn’t move from bed because my muscles were aching. I lost balance, I was always freezing cold and my brain fog meant I couldn’t remember anything.”
Since having the implants removed in 2016, Hannah noted that her health had drastically improved.
Rachel Stevens’ therapy admission
Speaking to The Sun, Rachel Stevens revealed that despite the success of the band, being in S Club had taken its “toll” on her and that she was still receiving therapy as a result.
“You just kind of push it down and get on with it and suck it up. And that does take a bit of a toll.
“I’ve spent a lot of time trying to learn to undo that.
“It’s something I have to work on every day. I still speak to a therapist. That really helps,” she said.
