Q Ever since I had Botox to treat my crow’s feet, I’ve been getting puffy bags below my eyes that deflate very slowly, then look saggy. Can it be fixed and could the Botox be at fault?
A I’m afraid it could be. ‘This is rare, but on some occasions, toxin injections can impact the lymph function around your eyes,’ says consultant dermatologist Dr Alexis Granite (dralexisgranite.com).
There are lymph vessels and nodes around your eyes that are responsible for draining fluids and toxins, and they rely on movement and muscle contractions to do this. ‘Botox (which paralyses muscles) for crow’s feet is placed at the outer corners of the eyes, near these vessels,’ says Dr Granite.

‘However it’s not so much the placement of the injections that can slow the lymph, but the amount of Botox used, which should be minimal.
‘The problem should resolve itself in a month or two, but next time you have Botox, make sure your doctor uses a far lower dose.’
Inge (pictured) spoke to Dr Alexis Granite who said the problem should resolve itself in a few months but that massaging the lymph can help it along
In the meantime, help your lymph along with a gentle massage. Cooling spheres such as Stylpro Facial Ice Globes (£35, feelunique.com) can be rolled from the sides of your nose across your cheekbones and out to your ears. If you do this for a few minutes every day, it should help drain stagnant fluids and recover firmer skin.
