A shop-owner has revealed he was left ’emotional’ after receiving a heartwarming letter from a schoolboy who stole from his store.
Halil Kurt, 37, from North London, owns two corner shops in Crouch End which are popular with students from surrounding schools.
Last month, the father-of-three was standing outside his branch of Londis when he spotted a young man walk into Weston Off License.
The businessman then made his way over to the shop four doors down to serve the student.
But when he arrived, the young man had already left – and there was a note addressed to the store manager next to the till.

The anonymous young man had been wracked with guilt over previously stealing ice cream bars from the shop and wanted to make things right by Halil.
The read: ‘I am writing this letter to apologise for my actions of shoplifting from your store.
‘I want to take full responsibility for my actions and I am deeply sorry for the inconvenience that I have caused.’
The anonymous writer then assured Halil that he learnt his lesson and would ‘never shoplift again’.
The note added: ‘I have enclosed £10 to compensate for my actions and the goods that I took. I hope you can forgive me sincerely.’
After looking at the CCTV, Halil saw the student placing the letter on the till – but wondered if he may have delivered it on someone else’s behalf.
The shopowner said: ‘It was quite emotional. It was something that I wasn’t expecting.’
‘All these students come into my shop every day and I’m always friendly with them.’

The anonymous writer apologised for the mistake he made when he was ‘significantly younger’ and gave Halil £10 in compensation
‘I give them sweets sometimes if they don’t have money. I’m like an uncle but they have to follow the rules.
‘If people do something like this and they pay it back I am the happiest person in the world.’
David Winskill, a customer who lives nearby, added: ‘It’s clear that this has been playing on the mind of someone, possibly for decades.
‘The sense of relief they are feeling is wonderful. It’s really brought a lot of joy to people who have heard about this in that having a conscience still exists in a lot of people.’
