When it comes to perfume, we’ve all got a favourite that we return to time and time again.
However, if your go-to fragrance happens to be a designer one you’ll know all too well just how expensive it can be to keep your perfume collection stocked up, which often means we end up saving our favourite expensive ones for special occasions.
If Yves Saint Laurent’s Black Opium, £125 here, is your scent of choice but you can’t bring yourself to wear it day to day, you’ll be pleased to know that Marks and Spencer’s shoppers think they’ve found the perfect affordable alternative that costs just a fraction of the price of the luxury version.
The Marks and Spencer Pink Pepper perfume, £10 here, has been called very similar to the luxury fragrance, with shoppers raving about what a bargain it is as an alternative to wearing your costly designer perfume every day.
The M&S Pink Pepper perfume mixes orange blossom with floral pink pepper and jasmine, and layers it with patchouli, vanilla and amber musks to create a fresh, uplifting fragrance. In case you’re not convinced by its similarity, the YSL Black Opium perfume has notes of vanilla, orange blossom and white flowers against a base of patchouli and white musk – definitely not too dissimilar to the more affordable M&S one.
At just £10 for a 100ml bottle of the Marks and Spencer Pink Pepper perfume, £10 here, versus £125 for a 90ml bottle of YSL, it’s easy to see why shoppers are making the switch to using the M&S version for everyday wear.
“Bought for my daughter, she usually wears Black Opium, this is very similar and lovely for day wear,” said one review, whilst another agreed: “Very, very similar to my favourite scent YSL and an absolute bargain!”
Others were slightly more coy about their comparison, writing: “This smells very similar to an expensive perfume from a brand which translates to life is beautiful. It does last quite well on the skin and is not an overwhelming scent.”
Plenty of other shoppers also commented on the perfume lasting quite a while on their skin, with one saying: “I purchased this after getting the Warm Neroli scent in my advent calendar. I really like sweet scented perfumes such as YSL Black Opium, Prada Candy and Lancome La Vie est Belle, Pink Pepper reminds me of these. At £5 a bottle it’s such a bargain and it also has pretty good staying power too.”
Although 100ml will only set you back £10, you can also get a 30ml of the Marks and Spencer Pink Pepper perfume, £6 here, if you want to test it out for yourself before committing.
M&S isn’t the only brand who’s released an affordable dupe of the YSL Black Opium perfume, with shoppers saying the Superdrug Layering Lab Body Mist Gelato, £3.99 here, also smells just like the fruity, floral scent.
One thing’s for certain though; now you never have to save your favourite fragrance for special occasions. Shop the Marks and Spencer Pink Pepper perfume, £10 here.
