Six tasty but cheap ways to make savoury porridge for your lunch and dinner | The Sun

STIR up some savings thanks to the latest viral food trend.

Savoury porridge has surged in popularity and makes a brilliantly simple, cheap lunch.

Make tasty cuts in your spending with these oaty ideas . . .

BREAKFAST AT LUNCH: Once you have made your porridge using water, add in bacon lardons and cooked mushrooms and serve with an egg on top.

This is a great way to use up those leftover weekend breakfast items.

STIR-FRIED PORRIDGE: It does sound odd but adding usual stir-fry ingredients — garlic, ginger and green veg — to oats cooked in chicken or vegetable stock is a delicious lunch option.

Serve with a poached egg and soy sauce to add flavour.

MEX FACTOR: Had fajitas last night? Use any scraps from your dinner and add to oats cooked in water.

Chopped avocado, tomatoes and crumbled feta cheese are great for a Mexican take on the savoury dish. Paprika seasoning also works well for this.

MARVELLOUS MISO: Cook porridge oats in vegetable stock or water then mix in a teaspoon of miso paste and top with thinly sliced spring onions.

BULK IT OUT: Don’t forget that oats can also be used to make meals go further. It works particularly well with mince dishes such as spag bol or lasagne.
