Sunburn blush is the latest trend to take over social media

Another day, another TikTok beauty trend. This time it’s a makeup trend called “sunburn blush” that's going viral on the app. Don’t be alarmed, because it’s not what you might first think. While there have been many sun-related TikTok hacks that experts have warned us against, this one is completely safe – and it actually looks kind of cute.

If, like us, you slather on the SPF daily to avoid looking like a lobster and to protect your skin from premature ageing, props to you. But we think we can all agree that in the heat of summer, we’re not against safely adding a little warmth to our complexions.

On that note, TikTok has answered our wishes once again. A sun-safe way of catching some rays, sunburn blush is a makeup technique where powder or cream blush is liberally applied to the areas of the face that might catch a sun flush: the apples of the cheeks, across the bridge of the nose, and extended out towards the ears.

The hashtag #sunburnblush has been viewed over 704K times so far on TikTok, with many users sharing their own take on the trend. Scrolling through the many clips, there are a few tips we’ve picked up on how to master the look – including selecting the perfect tone of blush.

There are no rules on whether you should use a liquid or powder blush, but while you may favour candy pinks or peachy hues for summer, to fool your friends and colleagues into believing you’ve been abroad, we’ve deciphered that it’s best to go for warm, rosy tones.

Ready to master TikTok’s newest makeup trend? Below you’ll find our favourite blushers in natural similar shades, so you can look gorgeous and glowy without having to book a holiday.

Morphe Blush Balm Soft-Focus Cream Blush, £12 here

We love this creamy matte formula by Morphe. Not only is it super pigmented and easy to blend, it also smooths and blurs the skin for a flawless, filter-like effect. It’s available in five different faux-flush tones, so take your pick!

Benefit Crystah Strawberry Pink Blush Powder, £22 here

While a cream blush will certainly give a “your skin, but better” finish, some people feel more comfortable with powder products – especially those with oilier complexions. If this sounds like you, you’ll love this strawberry pink blush shade with extra shimmer for a radiant glow.

Barry M Heatwave Baked Marble Blusher, £7 here

With three sun-kissed shades to compliment every skin tone, Barry M’s appropriately-named Heatwave blushers are perfect for creating that fresh-off-the-beach look. As well as applying across your cheeks and nose, try popping it on your eyelids too for ultimate summer vibes.
