Struggling to rub out Sharpie marks? TikToker’s hack shifts permanent marker stains in seconds

Permanent markers are great…. if you want to easily label something just once. 

They can however prove to be a curse when you’re mistakenly stuck with ink you can’t budge. 

Thankfully, being frustrated by erroneously using a Sharpie could be a worry you no longer need to endure thanks to this crafty hack. 

A video posted by TikTok user @fosddddooo1 has shown a seemingly ingenious way to get rid of the notoriously stubborn stain of a marker pen. 

Instead of attempting to rub out any writing with glass cleaner, the user successfully removes any trace of the marker pen after using a whiteboard eraser pen to draw over the stain, before wiping that clean.

The clip, which has been viewed more than 1.4 million times on the social video platform, has drawn mixed reactions – with some users even suggesting their own ways of getting rid of tough Sharpie stains. 

One user commented: ‘Teachers have known this for years.’

A second wrote: ‘rubbing alcohol works better’. 

A third posted: ‘Hand sanitizer works too!!!’

Another pointed out that WD40 would also work in removing permanent marker stains from a surface, while one other TikTok user said that deodorant would also work, due to the ethyl alcohol that some sprays contain. 

If you do not have any of those things to hand in certain situations, a further comment pointed out: ‘Marking over it again with the same marker then wipe it. Might take a few try’s but it will work.’

Other suggestions that could work according to viewers include spray-based sun cream, hairspray, nail polish remover and even e=lemon juice. 

Essentially, if you have anything that is highly acidic or contains a form of alcohol, you should be able to remove any trace of previous scribbles.  

Joking about the distinctly strong smell of permanent marker pens, another quipped: ‘why do I smell this video lol’.
