Three savvy ways to use leftover lunchbox food – from wraps to crisps | The Sun

STOCKING up lunchbox food doesn’t come cheap, so be sure to use up every crumb.

If you have a couple of leftover wraps going stale in the pack or some crisps that have been crushed in a bag, you can transform them into tasty family meals.

IT’S A WRAP: If you have a few wraps left, turn them into homemade tortilla chips.

Preheat the oven up to around 180C to 200C.

Brush both sides of the tortillas with oil and cut into triangles with scissors.

Bake in a single layer on a couple of baking sheets for around six to eight minutes, then sprinkle them with salt.

You can serve them on their own or with dips.

For more of a meal, pile the cooked chips on to one baking dish then add chopped fresh tomato, a few dollops of soft cheese, a chopped red onion and some spicy tinned beans.

Pop them back in the oven for five minutes then serve as a delicious dish of DIY nachos.

CRISPY CRACKERS: If you a few packs of uneaten crisps lying around, or they have been crushed at the bottom of a school bag, use the crumbs to make a tasty coating for chicken or fish.

For crispy chicken nuggets, dip chicken chunks first in a bowl of seasoned flour, then in whisked egg and finally in a bowl of crumbled crisps.

Fry them in oil, or your air fryer, and serve with lashing of mayo or ketchup.

APPLE TURNOVERS: Turn apples that have been lingering too long in a lunchbox into something special.

Soft apples can be used up in smoothies and are great in pickles, chutneys or even added to a curry.

You can also stew old apples to make apple sauce or use up in crumble.

Another option is to slice up an apple after quickly cooking it in boiling water, freeze it in a single layer, then pack into bags once frozen.

You can use the frozen apples to make apple cake or apple sauce.
