The clip, which had so far been viewed more than 11.3 million times, began with Ruby praising another creator’s video titled: ‘I named adults, not babies.’
Then, sharing her own thoughts, she started: ‘This is the exact reason on why I named my daughter what I named her.
‘The whole concept when I was trying to look for a name and choose a name for her, I did not want her to outgrow her name.
‘I wanted the name to fit her as a baby, as a toddler, as a child and into adulthood so I really am happy with what I ended up with naming her and it just fits her so well.’
Ruby uploaded the clip alongside a caption that read: ‘[I] love having nicknames as they are younger and it doesn’t mean they will prefer it over their name as they get older. Just gives them options.’
But the video has sparked backlash from social media users and intense debate.
In one camp, there were those who agreed, with one TikToker writing: ‘SAME! both my kids have adult names that can “grow” with them.’
Someone else commented: ‘People need to remember that this is likely the name their kid is gonna live with for the rest of their lives.’

And a third simply said: ‘Omg facts. Literally like some parents don’t think about how they’re going to have these names as adults.’
But not everyone was on board with Ruby’s comments.
One wrote: ‘On the flip side though a baby named Frank doesn’t seem right like they should spawn out as a 60yr old grandpa.’
Another added: ‘Names age with the generation. When our grandparents were naming their kids Brenda and Steven, those were baby names, not old people names.’
Someone else said: ‘The world is changing so much. By the time our babies are adults all names are going to be so different & unique it won’t matter.’
Ruby has since spoken to FEMAIL to discuss the topic in more depth.
Asked what initially spurred her to make the video, she said: ‘The original creator of the video I stitched specifically was referring to her stance on having nicknames. Which I love nicknames!
‘In most cases it doesn’t mean they will prefer it over their actual name but I feel it gives the child more options. Her statement “I named adults not babies” is what really hit home with me because that was part of my process when choosing a name for my daughter.
‘I wanted a name that would be suitable for her as a baby, toddler, childhood and into adulthood.’

But not everyone was on board with Ruby’s comments about how kids should be given monikers
Speaking about the reaction to it, the mother-of-two said: ‘I’m very grateful the vast majority of people who watched and commented understood exactly what my point was and where I was coming from.
‘People were more than eager to share names of others they found to be unique. Other parents also shared their reasoning(s) of choosing the name for their kids.
‘Pretty cool to interact with other parents in that way and hearing their stories!’
She continued: ‘Parents have their reasoning(s) for naming their babies what they do. It ranges from culture, background, naming them after someone special to them or simply because they love the name. It’s being respectful and mindful that we are all different.
‘At the end, they are your babies and you should name them as you feel and love.’
Ruby told FEMAIL about how she chose her own children’s names.
‘For my daughter, I did want something I felt she wouldn’t “outgrow” but also be taken seriously in anything she decides to do in life.
‘My husband and I always threw names out at each other to get the other’s opinions on it and nothing seemed right until we landed in Karla.
Concluding with some final advice for other parents, she said: ‘Choose a name you love and what you feel is right’
But she warned parents to ‘be mindful of your child’s future as there are ways to be fun, creative and unique without it being overboard’
‘We specifically went with a K instead of a C as I read K names tend be bold and powerful and I wanted that for her. It just felt right. Her middle name, Esmeralda, came from my father-in-law. We both were pretty adamant about having middle names for our kids as we both don’t have one.
‘We wanted something that would connect with our background. We loved it and it flowed nicely as a middle name.
‘For our son, this was more difficult for us. We just knew we wanted a name that when heard, you would just think it sounds nice.
‘We always loved the name Zayn but it didn’t feel right when we got pregnant and found out we were having a boy. I guess most parents would know what I mean by that.
‘So one night I was watching Grey Anatomy and Dr. Deluca came on. We loved it! Even though the name is tied with the character, no one would really know unless they watch the show or get that deep into the seasons.
‘So we agreed on that and stuck Zayn as his middle name. A little different but we love it!’
Concluding with some final advice for other parents, she said: ‘Choose a name you love and what you feel is right.
‘But would be mindful of your child’s future as there are ways to be fun, creative and unique without it being overboard. Again, they are your babies, you do as you see fit!’
