A woman was branded “Freddy Krueger” by her cruel classmates after developing massive “holes” and “boils” all across her body.

Kira Archuleta, 24, was diagnosed with a rare condition, Hidradenitis Suppurativa, which causes excruciating boils, abscesses and lesions.

At just 14 years old, she first noticed something was wrong at her home in Manteca, California.

The teen initially thought she was suffering from acne down to changing hormones, but she discovered something far more sinister was going on.

Kira found a singular "bump" on her underarm but within three years, the boils had spread across her face, thighs, breasts and groin.

She said: “My boils were absolutely everywhere – on my groin, my thighs, my underarm.

"I could just be sitting down, and I’d feel one of the blisters pop and that would be it – pain radiating through my entire body."

If she scratched at the bumps, they’d turn into agonising open wounds and lesions.

At the age of 17, Kira realised her bumps weren’t from the pangs of growing up, and doctors eventually diagnosed her with the rare condition.

The intolerable pain meant Kira had to quit school, leave her job and be bed bound for almost a year.

She said: “A doctor walked into the room and said, ‘you have Hidradenitis Suppurativa' and I was like 'what?'

“I was shocked, I’d never heard of it before. I didn’t just have wounds, spots or lesions – these were actual holes on my body.

"You could fit a whole hand in some of them. The pain became so excruciating, I ended up bedridden for 10 months.”

Doctors initially didn’t have a grasp of Kira’s condition, and put her unruly condition down to poor personal hygiene.

She added: "They made me feel ashamed, at first.

"I was told the problem would go away if I just ‘cleaned better’ – which made me feel even worse, like I was doing something wrong."

Once an outgoing character, constant name-calling from bullies rendered Kira insecure and timid.

She explained: "I was afraid to show my face for so long, because society told me it was ugly. People like me feel cast out and forced to hide.

“I went from being this strong, outgoing, sporty, bubbly person – to a shell of my former self.

"Even as an adult, people still call me horrible names like Freddy Krueger.”

Her mum, Tina, looked after Kira for almost a year, and admitted her to hospital when Tina felt like “she didn’t want to live anymore”.

Tina, 48, took her daughter to UC Davis Medical Centre in Sacramento, California.

Kira said: “They gave me antibiotics and fentanyl through an IV and they were properly cleaning my wounds.

"Through the will of god – I began to feel the most healed I had in 10 months.”

She has now learned to manage her symptoms, and she uses her TikTok account to spread awareness about the condition.

"Now, with pain management and antibiotics – I can work and live a full life. I've learnt that embracing your body is what makes you beautiful, not appearances.”

"I’m still here – and now, through TikTok – I have a platform to spread awareness of HS.”
