Nearly a year after Valerie Bertinelli filed for divorce from Tom Vitale, the former couple have reached a settlement.
According to PEOPLE, the divorce was settled by a private judge, Hank Goldberg, who approved their agreement on spousal support and legal fees considering their prenuptial agreement. Neither Valerie nor Tom needed to appear in court.

At this time, it’s not clear how much Tom was awarded in the settlement, if anything. In July, Tom requested $50,000 per month in spousal support despite their prenup. He also wanted Valerie to pay $200,000 to cover his attorney fees.
Prior to tying the knot, Tom was employed as a financial planner. But he says that his license expired during his marriage to Valerie, as he was focused on building up her business.

Now, Tom alleges he’s having trouble finding a job given the gap in his employment, thus why he argued he was entitled to spousal support.
“Tom’s age and decades out of the field, make it unlikely that he will be a desirable candidate for a job in the investment industry,” his lawyer argued in court documents.
Valerie was reportedly giving him $8,000 per month up until then but had recently cut him off. The actress initially filed for legal separation in November 2021 after a decade of marriage. She filed for divorce this May.
For her part, Valerie seems eager to move on from their relationship. Earlier this month, she made headlines for putting accessories from her wedding to Tom up for sale.
“Dropped a few things off with @therealreal,” she captioned an Instagram post. “A couple of Tiffany rings that have some bad memories attached and a pair of shoes I wore to a wedding in January 2011. They should be up in a couple of weeks!”

The post was accompanied by a close-up of photo of the Jimmy Choo shoes, and another image of the two rings.
The Food Network star also recently said she doesn’t see herself getting married again. “Because of the challenges that I’m going through right now, because divorce sucks,” she explained. “I can’t imagine ever trusting anyone again to let into my life.”
Valerie added, “I am gonna be more than happy to be happily divorced and spend the rest of my life alone. I’ll be happy that way. Well, with my six cats and my dog and my son, and hopefully one day grandchildren.”
Valerie has been married twice. Prior to her marriage to Tom, she was wed to Eddy Van Halen from 1981 to 2007. They had one son together.
