Particularly if you have long hair, you’ll know that sinking feeling when water pools at the bottom of your shower or bath.
Hair, soap scum, and general debris can clog your drains, leaving you to try ever more powerful chemicals to clear the blockage – and sometimes needing to call in a plumber if that doesn’t work.
As this TikTok shows, however, there is a better way.
Kasey Vass posted a video to the platform recently, showing off an Amazon drain unblocking gadget she’d purchased and giving it a go in her bathroom.
The long, spring-like tool goes down the plughole and is wound up with a handle to catch what’s obstructing the flow of water. Despite being a simple method, the results are shocking to say the least.
‘Oh my god,’ Kasey exclaims, pulling the unblocker – as well as a whole head’s worth of hair – from the drain.

Commenters joked about the sheer volume of hair they dislodged, with one saying, ‘full on pulled Samara out the drain,’ in reference to the horror movie The Ring.
Others were awe-struck and wanted to give it a go themselves.
‘Running to Amazon,’ commented one person. ‘I’m sure I have enough hair stuck down my drain to knit a coat lol.’
Kasey’s video has now been watched over 4.3 million times, with responses ranging from grossed out to oddly impressed. Many wondered what they’d find lurking in their own drains after years of neglect.
If you want to give it a go, the device costs just £9.99 from Amazon for a 1.5m x 5mm plumbing snake.
It’s certainly cheaper than a plumber, and helps you avoid further compounding the problem with chemicals (that could react badly with what’s already obstructing the pipes).
Instructions recommend to slowly inserting the probe into the clogged drain until you feel resistance. Next, turn counterclockwise until you’ve got some purchase, then slowly pull it out.
A carbon steel claw at the end of the probe helps you push through blockages while catching loose hair, while the flexible materials ensures it’ll work with any shape of pipe.
For those who prefer eco-friendly solutions, the beauty of this is that it negates the need for pouring harsh chemicals in the drain. Plus, as it’s reusable, it’ll see you through plumbing problems for years to come.
If you want to save cash, do better by the planet, and keep your kitchen and bathroom running like a dream, it may just be the thing for you.
