Wetherspoons changes breakfast menu as it make cuts amid food shortages

Bad news for Wetherspoons fans as the pub announced a big change to the menu.

The popular budget boozer is no longer serving tomatoes with fry-ups amid the vegetable shortage in the UK.

Foodies who like the staple with their Full English will have to go without for now as Wetherspoons were 'forced' to cut the tomatoes from the menu.

Before the culling of the tomato, punters could get their hands on the large breakfast for a bargain £6.88.

It included two sausages, two bacon, two fried eggs, a large mushroom slice, a tomato, three hash browns, baked beans and four half slices of toast.

But now, the tomato is no longer available with the meal.

And, it's not just the fry-ups that have been left tomato-less on the menu.

Wetherspoons fans will not be able to add grilled tomatoes as an extra to their grub as the item is currently listed as 'out of stock'.

Tomatoes have also been removed from traditional and small breakfasts – along with lunchtime food choices like burgers and steak.

It doesn't look good for cucumbers either, as the green vegetable is in short supply too.

The removal of tomatoes has not gone down well with Wetherspoon's punter Anthony Garnett, he said: "They are really taking the p*ss now.

"I have plenty of tomatoes in my fridge.

"So why can't Wetherspoon source any?"

Current predications see that the tomato supply to the UK will not go back to normal until early May.

The shortage of tomatoes is being blamed on bad weather in Europe which has affected crop yields.

After customers like Anthony have not been happy with the decision, Wetherspoons put up posters around the pubs to explain to punters.

The sign reads: "There is a national supply issue affecting tomato and cucumber in some pubs.

"This means some menu dishes, such as breakfasts, burgers and steaks, will be served without tomato.

"Salads which accompany a meal, such as lasagne and jacket potatoes, will now be made with mixed salad leaves, red onion and salad dressing.

"Thank you for your understanding."
