Earlier this month, the official Prince and Princess of Wales Instagram account released a photo of Kate Middleton looking gorgeous as she got into the festive spirit and decorated a Christmas tree.
The photo was actually taken last year, but was resued to promote Kate and William’s upcoming carol service, captioning the photo: "A very special Carol Service, coming soon,” which will be airing on ITV on Christmas Eve.
The photo might not be from this year, but that doesn’t mean we’re any less invested in Kate’s knitwear of choice, with her cosy festive jumper managing to look both Christmassy and chic.
In the snap the Princess of Wales was wearing a cream knitted Fairisle jumper with a high roll neck, and we loved it so much we instantly knew we needed to add it to our winter jumper roster.
A quick bit of sleuthing deduced that Kate was wearing the Holland & Cooper Cream Fairsle Knit, £179 here, which is made from an extra-soft yarn with a Fairisle pattern across the chest, cuffs and hem, and gold button details along the cuffs and across the shoulders.
As much as we love the Princess of Wales’ Christmassy look, we probably won’t be dropping £179 on a cosy knit any time soon, so we’ve hunted high and low and found some amazing affordable alternatives to fill the Fairisle-shaped hole in our hearts – and wardrobes.
Thankfully, River Island has come through with the goods, as its Cream Diamante Fairisle Jumper, £40 here, that’s giving us very similar vibes to Kate’s thanks to its high roll neck and Fairisle pattern across the chest made from rhinestones.to give it some festive sparkle.
Although it's missing some of the major details of Kate’s Holland & Cooper one, such as the extra pattern across the hem and cuffs and the gold buttons, it still makes a pretty fab alternative and will look great styled with everything from jeans to a sequin midi skirt for upcoming Christmas parties.
If you’re not a fan of sparkles, you can always pick up some of the other affordable alternatives that we found during our search, like Marks and Spencer’s Pure Wool Fair Isle Funnel Neck Jumper, £89 here, which has an almost identical pattern placed across the chest, hem and cuffs, just like Kate’s, and is made from 50% lambswool and 50% wool, making it extra cosy and warm.
With Christmas jumper season on the horizon, a Fairisle knit is the perfect way to get into the festive spirit whilst still looking chic and elegant – just like Kate.
