WINNING a bingo game means winning the full house prize. However, not every game ends with a jackpot winner.
Do you know how to win a bingo jackpot?
The jackpot is an extra opportunity for a game payout that’s in addition to the standard bingo wins of 1L, 2L and full house.

Bingo players can win huge sums of cash through jackpots.
So, Sun Bingo has put together this guide on how bingo jackpots work.
What is a bingo jackpot?
Not every game of bingo has a jackpot. However, if they do, the jackpot is a prize (usually a sum of money) that can be won IF the full house is called below a certain ball count.
For instance, a game may have a jackpot of £500 and trigger of 30 balls.
This means that if the full house is won in 30 calls or less, £500 is won IN ADDITION to the full house prize.

How are bingo jackpots calculated?
Sites will use different ways to calculate the jackpots. It will also depend on if the jackpot is progressive or fixed.
However, it is common for a portion of the ticket sales to fund the jackpot.
Most progressive jackpots have a seed value. This is the minimum jackpot that’s guaranteed to be won.
When a progressive jackpot is won, the jackpot is “re-seeded”.
This means that the jackpot returns to the seed value, ready to be built back up again, until it is won.

What are the different types of bingo jackpot?
Most games have only one jackpot. However, there are a few different types of bingo jackpot that can be won.
- Fixed jackpots
Fixed jackpots can be considered the original form of jackpot. They are always the same amount (eg, £10, £100, £500) and they are won if the full house is called below a given ball count.
It doesn’t matter if there are consecutive jackpot wins; the full jackpot amount will be awarded each time.
- Progressive jackpots
The winnings from a progressive jackpot can change, paying out more or less than the previous jackpot win.
A progressive jackpot will build and build with each game, until it is won.
When this happens, the jackpot value returns to the seed value. This means that if there are no jackpot wins for a while, the value can get really high.
That's a benefit over a fixed jackpot, which never changes.
However, if there are consecutive wins on games with a progressive jackpot, the second winner will most likely not win as much as the first winner.
This is because the second winner is awarded only the seed value because the jackpot has not had a chance to build up.
That being said, progressive jackpots can grow hugely between wins, meaning the potential payout can be very exciting!

- Community jackpots
Jackpots aren’t just for the full house winner(s), they can also be a treat for everyone!
With a community jackpot, when someone wins the jackpot, everyone benefits.
Community jackpots will share the winnings between the full house winner(s) who triggered the jackpot AND any players with tickets for the winning game.
The split is usually 50/50. However, the share given to each player may be equal (i.e. equally shared among all players with at least one ticket) or proportional (i.e. proportionally shared, depending on the number of tickets that each player had for the winning game).
So, jackpots can be a great way to still win, even if your numbers don’t come up!
- Escalator jackpots
An escalator jackpot, like a progressive jackpot, changes.
However, while a progressive jackpot will increase in winnings, an escalator jackpot will increase the triggering ball count.
This makes it more likely that the jackpot will be won because there are more chances for a full house to be called before the maximum call is reached.
For instance, if the usual ball count for the jackpot is 35 calls or less, if this were increased to 40 calls or less, there’s an extra five chances for the full house to be called and the jackpot won.
Sites usually use an escalator jackpot as part of a promotion, promising that the jackpot WILL be won because the ball count will keep increasing until either the jackpot is win or the triggering ball count is the maximum number of calls in that game, guaranteeing a jackpot win.
For instance, in a game of 75-ball bingo, a jackpot ball count may start at 38 calls but increase by two balls hourly until either it is won or the triggering ball count is 75 (whichever comes first).

This includes information on any jackpots available.
This key information includes the following.
JP value – this is how much the jackpot is currently worth. It will also tell you whether it is a fixed or progressive jackpot.
Win trigger – this is the number of calls within which the jackpot can be triggered.
Winner / community – this tells you how the jackpot is split:
- N/A means that all the money goes to the full house winner(s).
- 50% / 50% means that the money will be evenly split between the full house winner(s) and all other players with a ticket for the winning game (the community).
- 0% / 100% means that the entire jackpot will be shared among the community.
Community share – This lets you know how the winnings will be shared amongst the community, if it’s a shared pot. “Proportional” means that the share is proportional to the number of tickets each player has for that game.
Last seed / re-seed – This is the starting value of a progressive jackpot.
Multiple winners – If there is more than one full house winner, the jackpot can either be split between them or each winner can receive the full amount (“split amount” or “full amount”).
