A woman has revealed how she made almost £1,000 by simply selling Polaroid photos at Notting Hill Carnival – and now plans to take her business global.
Amma Antwi, from Battersea in South London, took to the streets at the Caribbean carnival over August bank holiday weekend and snapped photos of the public charging a fiver a shot.
The 32-year-old also sold bundle deals charging £10 for three Polaroid pictures that she took on her Instax Mini 11 camera.
In total, Amma said she made £900 and sold more than 200 instant pictures, which resulted in a profit of £573 after subtracting the set-up costs of the camera, film and card reader.
She said she was happy with her trading skills over the two days but hopes to make a bigger turnover selling photos at the next event she attends as she now has all the photography kit.

Amma said she felt like a candidate on the BBC One series The Apprentice as she had to deal with a lot of rejection.
However, the freelance photographer, known as BSG, said the majority of carnival goers loved her entrepreneurial idea and Amma said she saw rejection from passers-by as ‘redirection’.
Amma said: ‘I love Notting Hill Carnival and as I have recently started doing photography I wanted a way to strengthen these skills but also network and speak to people I may not get to speak to everyday.
‘As much as I wanted to use my digital camera, I thought using my Polaroid would be the golden touch.
‘I felt like I was on The Apprentice because I had to go up to people and sell and with this I had to handle a lot of rejection too.
‘I knew I was going to get rejected. It was understandable. But I was ready for it.
‘The first person I asked I got rejected by but this gave me that rush to sell and get a yes.
‘I thought if I got no’s it wasn’t a bad thing, I saw it as redirection.

‘Using a Polaroid, you are really capturing the moment so there was a bit of pressure too.
‘It sounds weird but I liked getting the rejection. It made me think what I could change to make a sale, which made me feel like I was on the show.’
Amma said she accepted cash and card payments at the carnival to attract as many buyers as possible.
To advertise her Polaroid printing, she created ‘walking billboards’ by wearing white tops from Primark with printed iron on letters outlining the prices of her photo business.
She said she also used a giant megaphone to vocally promote her trading too and said almost everyone she spoke to loved her photo idea and encouraged her to keep selling.
Amma said: ‘I’d say 95 percent of people, whether they bought a Polaroid photo or not, loved the idea and my entrepreneurial skills and told me to keep going.

After the success of this year’s Polaroid sales, Amma says she will definitely be doing it again at next year’s Notting Hill Carnival and hopes to take the business global if she can form a partnership with Polaroid or Instax
‘This made me feel good. I didn’t see it as a hustle, I just saw it as a fun thing to do.’

Amma said: ‘I am one hundred percent doing it again.
‘Carnival weekend is one of the last bank holidays in the UK so next year I’m going to do it again at the carnival and then maybe fly to New York for the Labour day Celebrations.
‘This will be a completely different crowd to the London crowd.
‘I’d love to get a partnership with Polaroid or Instax and take the business global.
‘We could then take the business to places like Brazil. There are so many carnivals in the world.
‘They haven’t got back to me yet [these companies] but we’re pushing for it and I’m ambitious.’
