When we think of UK beaches, images of cold salty water, sticks of rock, and enjoying a Mr Whippy on stone-cladded sand spring to mind.
But sewage and agricultural pollution is becoming more and more of an issue on UK shores.
In fact, some authorities earlier this year even went as far as to ban swimmers from entering the water.
And the worst culprits have been revealed – with a seaside spot near Bradford topping the list.
The dirtiest beach in the UK has been named as Wharfe at Cromwheel, in Ilkney, with the highest count of E.coli and an overall low water cleanliness score.
Blackpool North – one of the three Blackpool beaches on the list that banned visitors from swimming due to heavy contamination in June – came second, followed by Weston Main in North Somerset in third.
Blackpool Central and Blackpool South round off the top five – in fourth and fifth, respectively.
Elsewhere offenders in Somerset, Flyde and West Norfolk make up the rest of the top 10.
Rubbish removal company Clear It Waste created the rankings by looking into 400 beaches across the UK and giving each one an overall water cleanliness score
