Ajax sign Steven Bergwijn from Tottenham in £26m transfer opening door for Man Utd to land Antony | The Sun

TOTTENHAM have announced the sale of Steven Bergwijn to Ajax.

The winger, 24, fell out of Antonio Conte's plans last season and scored just three goals in 25 league games.

But he now has a fresh start after Ajax finally had a bid accepted after several attempts.

It is believed Spurs were looking for £26million to let Bergwijn leave having bought the Dutchman for £27m in 2020.

Bergwijn is thought to have already agreed personal terms and is set to sign a five-year deal.

Reports claimed both Manchester United and Everton had been willing to pay £35m for Bergwijn, but the player himself wanted to sign for Ajax.

In a short statement announcing his departure Tottenham documented the winger's time at the club.

They then wished Bergwijn well saying: "We wish Stevie all the best for the future."

Ajax completing a move for Bergwijn means they have a ready made replacement for Antony if he leaves.

The Brazilian has been heavily linked with a transfer amid interest from United but reportedly has an asking price of £70m.
