Arsenal join Man Utd in Vitinha transfer race as they consider triggering £34m release clause for Porto midfielder | The Sun

ARSENAL have joined the race to sign Porto star Vitinha, according to reports.

The midfielder, 22, is attracting attention from some of Europe's biggest clubs after some glittering form Portugal and the Champions League.

Barcelona and Manchester United are credited with interest but it could be Arsenal who make the first move.

Vitinha is available for £34million due to a clause in his contract with the Gunners ready to pounce according to Portuguese outlet Record.

Mikel Arteta is targeting several additions to his squad this summer but signing a midfielder appears to be his priority.

The Spaniard wants to improve the depth in centre midfield with Granit Xhaka also possibly heading for an exit amid links to Bayer Leverkusen.

Arteta seems to want a midfielder with Premier League experience having eyed Leicester's Youri Tielemans and Yves Bissouma, though the Brighton star appears to be heading to Tottenham.

Vitinha, whose full name is Vitor Machado Ferreira, also fits the bill after spending the 2020-21 season on loan at Wolves, where he made 19 Prem appearances.

But United are also monitoring his situation after holding talks with his agent Jorge Mendes a few weeks ago.

Erik ten Hag also wants to add to his midfield with the Red Devils in talks to sign Frenkie de Jong while also offering a contract to Christian Eriksen.

Like those two moves, Arsenal's pursuit of Tielemans is also dragging on, which means sporting director Edu may turn his attention to Vitinha.

The youngster is already a Portugal international and his defensive mindset could help to shore up a Gunners backline that lost its steel following injury to Thoams Partey.
