    Webb on Kovacic incident

PGMOL chief Howard Webb has had his say on Mateo Kovacic avoiding a red card against Arsenal on Sunday.

The head of referees claimed that VAR would be "re-refereeing" the game if they sent the midfielder off for his strong lunge on Martin Odegaard and that official Micheal Oliver did not want to "overreact".

However, Webb did concede that he thought Kovacic was "extremely fortunate" to stay on the field and avoid a second yellow card after a late challenge on Declan Rice.

    Ke-owned them

Arsenal legend Martin Keown gave Mikel Arteta a message to pass on to his players after their 1-0 win over Manchester City.

Keown was left especially proud of the his team's defending as they shut out the Treble winners and goal machine Erling Haaland.

The Norwegian didn't manage a shot in the game and was limited to just 23 touches.

The pundit heaped praise on centre-back duo Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes for their ability to keep Haaland quiet.

He said: "I just want to say, by the way, the two central defenders – as an ex-central defender for Arsenal – they were immense today.

"Saliba and Gabriel, they ate Haaland.

"They were physically top-class, if you want to pass that on to them."

Mikel Arteta agreed then encouraged Keown to tell them himself when he sees them.

    Squad depth vital

Mikael Silvestre believes Arsenal's boosted squad could make the difference in the title race.

The former defender told bettingexpert.com: "The squad depth paid off, absolutely.

"They knew they had to thicken the squad after last season where they were a bit short towards the money time – March, April – that's where they started losing ground.

"We are early on but you can count on these players to be difference makers.

"When you're the opposition and you see these players [Martinelli, Havertz, Partey, Tomiyasu] coming in, you're like 'this is not going to get any easier' cause the guys are great players and are fresh'."

    Rice justifies price tag

Ex-Arsenal defender Mikael Silvestre believes Declan Rice showed why the Gunners broke the bank to buy him in the win over Manchester City.

The Frenchman told bettingexpert.com: "That's why they spent £100million on Rice. For these types of games.

"These types of performances, tight wins, can be the difference between winning and losing the title. That's why they were so disciplined."

    Jesus on versatility

Gabriel Jesus has been used as a striker and as a winger this season amid an injury crisis at Arsenal.

On his constantly changing role, he said: "When I chose to move from City to Arsenal, Edu and Arteta spoke to me, and I made it clear that I’d like to play No9.

“This season has been different, we’ve had injuries and in the last few games I’ve played three up front.

“For a while, I thought I’d just say I wanted to play No9, but I’m here to help the team.

"I’m blessed by God to have this talent and the versatility to play in all three forward positions. I prefer not to choose.”

Bico claimed two years ago: "Arsenal was his first choice, his father’s choice too.

    Emirates stadium snub

The UK and Ireland have had their bid to host the 2028 Euros confirmed today.

But some fans have raised questions over why some of the most famous venues in English football have been rejected from hosting games in the esteemed tournament.

Anfield and Stamford Bridge are missing out due to the fact that their respective pitch sizes do not meet UEFA regulations for international tournaments.

Meanwhile, Arsenal's Emirates was rejected in place of Tottenham's brand new arena as the capital's chosen site – alongside Wembley.

And Manchester United's iconic Old Trafford will not be included after the owners discussed plans to renovate the stadium in the off-season with the FA.

The Glazers are yet to conclude their strategic review as they wrangle over the sale of the club to either Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al-Thani or Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

    G-really funny moment

Arsenal ace Ben White appeared to be laughing at Manchester City star Jack Grealish following a melee at the end of Sunday's Premier League clash at the Emirates.

Several City stars were involved in tussles with the Gunners' bench as they made their way towards the tunnel.

Grealish was involved in an altercation with the home side's players and staff and had to be dragged away by security personnel.

White appeared to laugh in reaction to his England team-mate's behaviour as the incensedwinger headed down the tunnel.

It was not entirely clear what tickled the versatile defender, but he clearly found something amusing and could not help but snigger to himself as the situation unfolded.

    More on bust-up

Manchester City sources revealed why Kyle Walker was unhappy with Arsenal's set-piece coach Nicolas Jover.

City won the two games against the Gunners in February and April to take a huge advantage in the Premier League title race last season.

Yet Jover – who spent two years working under Pep Guardiola at the Etihad – stood with his hands behind his back at the end of those games.

The coach made it clear he would not be shaking hands with anyone from City back then – yet he was only too keen to do so after an Arsenal win.

Walker felt this was unacceptable and told his team-mates in the dressing room afterwards that it was the reason behind his angry reaction.

    Heated bust-up explained

The heated touchline row between Manchester City stars Erling Haaland as well as Kyle Walker and the Arsenal bench was caused by a handshake.

The Gunners' set-piece coach Nicolas Jover – who used to work at City – sought out Walker after the final whistle on Sunday after the North Londoners’ 1-0 victory and offered his hand.

The Citizens' captain reacted angrily because Jover had refused to shake hands with his former pals at Man City after BOTH Premier League games against his current team last season.

A largely forgettable game between the title rivals on Sunday exploded as the teams left the pitch at the end with Walker squaring up to the 41-year-old coach near the tunnel.

Haaland then waded in to keep the pair apart before other players and backroom staff also piled in.

    'Is that the right mindset?'

Manchester City star Erling Haaland was asked about his mindset by a reporter after his answer to a question before the 1-0 loss to Arsenal at the Emirates.

Speaking to a Sky Sports reporter before the game, Haaland was asked what particular problems and challenges the Gunners would pose for City.

The star striker replied: "I don't know, I didn't think too much about it."

While the Norway international was still giving his answer, the reporter interjected by asking: "Is that the right mindset?"

Haaland finished his answer by saying City would aim to play their own game.
