Pepe joins Trabzonspor
Arsenal have finally got rid of Nicolas Pepe but only after ripping up his contract to allow him to leave as a free agent.
The 28-year-old Ivorian international has joined Trabzonspor on a 12-month deal just a week before the Turkish transfer window closed.
Arsenal had been hoping to receive a nominal transfer fee for a player who cost them £72million when they signed him from Lille in 2019.
That was a club record at the time but the player never lived up to expectations and in the end they agreed to grant him a free transfer just to get him off their wage bill.
There were growing concerns that Pepe would sit tight at the Emirates for the remaining ten months of his £150,000-a-week contract and bank around £6million without actually kicking the ball.
And with both Besiktas and Saudi club Al Shabab failing to follow up initial interest with a firm offer, Trabzonspor were his only remaining escape route.

Prem dominates global transfer spending
Premier League clubs were responsible for more than a quarter of the entire world’s record international summer window transfer splurge.
And that was BEFORE the huge deals between top flight clubs were taken into account.
English sides splashed out £1.6BILLION to sign players from overseas clubs, according to Fifa’s official figures.
The biggest deals were the £77m paid by Manchester City for Croatian defender Josko Gvardiol, Rasmus Hojlund’s £64m switch to Manchester United and Liverpool’s £60m capture of Dominik Szoboszlai.
It meant Prem sides accounted for 26 per cent of the global £5.9bn spent on moving players across borders – a sum which included two England stars, with Jude Bellingham joining Real Madrid in a deal worth up to £113m and Harry Kane’s £100m move to Bayern Munich from Spurs.
But the figures did not include three of the biggest summer deals which were entirely between Prem clubs, with Chelsea snaring Moises Caicedo from Brighton for £115m, Declan Rice moving across London to Arsenal for £105m and the Gunners’ £65m move for Kai Havertz.

However, some Arsenal fans missed the dramatic finale after leaving the Emirates Stadium early.
The early leavers received plenty of criticism from fans on social media.
But ex-Man Utd star Berbatov admits he understands why they did it.
Berbatov then met a group of early-leaving fans as part of a promotion with Betfair before travelling with them on an open-top bus to a bar.

'I'm not swapping our captain'
Former Premier League striker – and Arsenal fan – Darren Bent has revealed he would keep Martin Odegaard at Arsenal even if they signed Jude Bellingham.
Speaking on talkSPORT, Bent said: "Bellingham? I love him, I love him. But the question that was put to me in the pre-show planning meeting was, would I swap Odegaard for him.
"And no, I’m not swapping our captain, one of our influential players. Right at this particular moment, I’d keep Odegaard, thank you."
He added: "I’d keep Odegaard. Our captain, our leader. He’s inspirational.
"I think Bellingham is probably a better player but for where Arsenal are at right now, Odegaard being the captain, I'm not swapping him."

Agent Saka
Bukayo Saka played a large role in convincing Arsenal's record signing Declan Rice to join the club.
The former West Ham captain moved to the Emirates in a deal worth £105million this summer – a record fee for a British player.
But Gunners fans may owe another of their star players some thanks for his role in the transfer after he put in a good word for the club.
Saka, 22, revealed he used his close bond with ex-Hammer Rice to lure the midfielder into Mikel Arteta's squad.
He told talkSPORT: “Obviously he’d ask a few questions and I’d answer them.

Pepe leaves Arsenal
Nicolas Pepe has finally left Arsenal after posing on a private plane in a Trabzonspor kit.
The winger became the Gunners most expensive player in 2019, following his move from Lille for £72million.
But he failed to fit in at the Emirates and managed just 27 goals in 112 Arsenal matches.
Pepe fell out of favour with manager Mikel Arteta but the club struggled to sell him.
And it is understood Gunners bosses have decided to cut their losses on the player and terminate his £150,000-a-week contract, which had one year left to run.
And Pepe has now agreed a move to Trabzonspor in Turkey, posing in the club's colours as he jetted in to sign.

Wright on Nketiah
Arsenal legend Ian Wright praised Eddie Nketiah and analysed how much he has improved this season.
Mikel (Arteta) has a lot of faith in Nketiah. I think Eddie is paying it off now. Capable of scoring against anyone.
We know that he is, somebody in the box, who is very dangerous. But you can see, especially through this summer. He has bulked himself up.
He looks sharper. More intense in what he is doing. His work outside of the box has improved no-end.

Leandro Trossard statement
Arsenal ace Leandro Trossard isn't worried about his lack of game time so far this season because there's still a long way to go.
I don’t know how the national coach [Domenico Tedesco] feels about that [his role at Arsenal].
I am still convinced that I will play enough matches. I will be ready for the European Championship.
We have a game every three days [at Arsenal], so it’s impossible to play with the same guys every time.
It’s up to me to show myself when I get a chance. The coach told me that too.

And the Spanish tactician is said to be contemplating giving his fellow countryman a prolonged run in the team.
That's according to The Daily Mail, who report Raya has "deeply impressed" in training since his arrival.
The Spain international's ability to play out from the back is said to have really caught the eye of Arteta.
