Wenger thinks Arsenal have advantage over City

Arsene Wenger has said he believes Arsenal are well placed to take advantage of Manchester City’s squad changes this season.

The former Gunners boss believes his old team could go one step further than they did last season and end up as Premier League winners.

Arsenal haven’t won the league since 2004 when Wenger was in charge, but the Frenchman reckons injuries and exits at the Etihad have put Arsenal in the drivers seat.

Speaking on the Seaman Says podcast, he said: “I believe as well that City, having lost [Kevin] De Bruyne for a long period and Gundogan [to Barcelona], who was a very important player, even if they are a top team I don’t disagree with that, maybe they (Arsenal) can take advantage of it.”

The Gunners boss spoke ahead of Arsenal’s trip to Goodison Park to face Everton on Sunday, suggesting Partey’s return is now just a matter of weeks away.

He said: “He’s still a few weeks away. He’s got a muscle injury and he’s progressing well but he’s still a few weeks away.”

Xhaka error helps Kane bag 300th club goal

Harry Kane reached 300 club goals as he made it four in four for new club Bayern Munich – helped by Granit Xhaka's error

However, former Arsenal midfielder Xhaka had the last laugh with Bayer Leverkusen against his old Tottenham foe in tonight's 2-2 Bundesliga draw.

Kane nodded a seventh-minute opener after Xhaka was caught ball-watching and lost the England skipper

Alex Grimaldo soon with a superb free-kick into the top corner, only for Leon Goretzka to restore Bayern's lead on 86 minutes.

That goal looked to have won it, only for a VAR review to penalise Alphonse Davies for a foul inside the penalty area.

Exequiel Palacios converted the resulting spot-kick to tie the match at 2-2 and maintain both sides' unbeaten league starts.

'NO Spurs players would start for Arsenal'

Ex-Tottenham midfielder and manager Tim Sherwood believes NO current Spurs players would get in the Arsenal team.

Ahead of the North London derby on Sunday week, Sherwood suggested playmaker James Maddison would be the closest.

The former Prem title winner with Blackburn told the No Tippy Tappy Football Podcast:“At the moment there’s not one standing out to me who gets into the team.

"I was thinking Son, who do you leave out? Saka? Martinelli?

"Odegaard has to be in the team, he goes in where Maddison would go in.

"We’ve seen Maddison have these spells at Leicester. He has better players around him now, so hopefully he can continue playing on a regular basis like he is."

Mikel Arteta is confident Arsene Wenger is wrong to claim Arsenal's Champions League return will cost them Prem points.

Current boss Arteta said: "Well, it’s exactly the same as last year. We played every three days, but it was the Europa League. So the competition is different.

"Obviously, the demands of that competition and the expectations are different, especially as we’ve been away from there for seven years. But it’s excitement.

"This is where we want to be. When you look at the fixtures and the games that we have to play, I think everybody’s really looking forward to it."

All-time great Gunners' manager Wenger had told David Seaman’s Seaman Says podcast this week: "We have to deal with the Champions League, so that costs points as well."
