An Aston Villa fan has been accused of racism after making a vile gesture towards a Chelsea supporter on Saturday, shocking footage has revealed.

Unai Emery’s Villa beat the Blues 2-0 at Stamford Bridge thanks to goals from Ollie Watkins and John McGinn.

But the game was marred by the disgraceful actions of a fan in the away end.

Video shows the man, with a yellow circle around him in the below clip, targeting a black Chelsea fan sitting in the home end, close to him.

He makes an alleged monkey gesture to the person in question, before appearing to flick the V sign and say ‘f*** off’.

Villa won the game thanks to goals from Ollie Watkins (centre) and John McGinn (left) but it was marred by the incident of alleged racial abuse, just the latest in a long line this season

One Villa fan sitting near the offender in the away end sees the apparent racist gesture, laughs out loud and follows up with an obscene gesture to the same Chelsea supporter.

The Chelsea fan who filmed the encounter from a higher tier then says ‘I caught it, I caught it’ after catching the incident on camera.

If the offender can be identified, he could face charges and may be banned from entering football stadiums or given a lifetime ban by Villa.

It is just the latest hugely depressing incident involving racism in football.

Last month, Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior suffered ‘intolerable’ racist abuse again during El Clasico against Barcelona.

In response, LaLiga bosses set up a dedicated complaints channel for fans to identify culprits.

In March, Brentford boss Thomas Frank opened up on the difficulties black striker Ivan Toney faces in dealing with racism ‘every day’.

Sportsmail has approached Aston Villa and Chelsea for comment.
