Barcelona icon Samuel Eto’o faces MATCH-FIXING allegations just days after he's accused of trying to ruin Man Utd star | The Sun

BARCELONA icon Samuel Eto’o reportedly faces allegations of match-fixing.

That’s after being accused of trying to ruin the international career of new Manchester United goalie Andre Onana.

Former Barca, Inter Milan and Chelsea striker Eto’o, 42, retired from football in 2019.

Two years later he was announced as the President of Cameroon’s Football Federation.

But Eto’o has now become embroiled in match-fixing allegations after a leaked conversation allegedly saw him promise to promote two club sides to Cameroon’s top division.

According to Camfoot, via La Razon, Eto’o reportedly told Victoria United President Valentine Gwain: “There are things we can do, but you have to be very discreet brother. I’m out of the country.

“I haven’t even had time to go home and work with the president because I can’t call the refs directly and tell them to be careful. But I can work with the president [of the referees].

“Don’t worry, we’ll give you your three points and we will suspend the referee. But let me at least come back to Cameroon.

“I arrive on the 3rd (of January) in the evening. So we’ll meet in the office on the 4th. But I’m going to discard this referee anyway. I’m going to disqualify him.

“On the 4th we’ll meet in the office, and that’s when I’ll summon the president of the referees.

“It’s better that we meet discreetly. Maybe you organise two days, you invite your wives to Yaounde, we see each other discreetly, we talk and you leave.

“It’s important to have a good relationship with the president of the league. He has the power. And from there, he, with his commissions, will be able to suspend even the president of the referees.”

Victoria United were promoted to Cameroon’s top flight in April.

And Cadena Cope adds that since the alleged conversation was made public, Cameroon’s FA have received a new £5.6million grant from Fifa.

The claims come just days after an ex-Cameroon FA vice-president accused Eto’o of ruining the international career of Man United goalie Onana.

The new £47m star quit the national team last year after leaving Cameroon’s World Cup squad following a bust-up with management.

And Henry Njalla Quan claims Eto’o is the driving force behind Onana’s exile, telling a press conference via the Mail: “Andre Onana's call-up to the national team is conditional on the president of Fecafoot.

“I formally asked him about the future of our goalkeeper in the national team, and he replied that the boy's career is over, and that the letter he sent to his (former) club – Inter FC – was to get rid of the boy, so how can anyone be so mean?

“He explained the real reason for the expulsion of Andre Onana from the World Cup held in Qatar, as the president of the Cameroonian football federation, Samuel Eto’o, wanted to get rid of the Inter goalkeeper at all costs.

“The stars of the national team are being suffocated by someone who was a star himself when he was a footballer, and wants to remain a star as a manager.

“In every meeting he is there, in every training session he is there. Even the coach feels suffocated by Eto’o’s omnipresence.’

Njalla also claims he was personally targeted, adding: “Eto’o gave one million francs to a football official to keep an eye on me, and this man started threatening my family.

“I referred the matter to the public prosecutor who took measures to ensure my safety.

“The gentleman threatened me, saying that I would walk around naked before I died.
