BRIGHTON and Aston Villa currently trail Ajax in the race to sign Rangers young left back Calvin Bassey.
That's according to bookmakers Betfair, who have the Dutch side at 4/6 odds on favourites ahead of the south coast side at 2/1.
The Nigeria international signed for Rangers from Leicester two years ago on a free transfer.
The 22-year-old helped the Glasgow side to their first league title in ten years in his first season with the club.
In his second season, the defender played a key role in the club's run to the Europa League final, playing every minute of the knockout stage.
Bassey went on to be named in the competition's team of the season.
The defender can play at left back or centre back and has two years left on his contract in Scotland.
Ajax have been declared as the odds on favourites to sign the youngster, but Brighton are still interested in signing him.
Current Brighton left back Marc Cucurella has been strongly linked with a move to Manchester City this summer and Bassey could prove to be a capable replacement for the Spaniard.

Steven Gerrard's Aston Villa side are also linked with a move for the defender.
Gerrard was the manager who signed Bassey from Leicester at Rangers and enjoyed success together in Glasgow as they were crowned Scottish champions.
It now seems the Liverpool legend is eager to bring the Nigerian back to the Midlands to join Aston Villa, with Betfair pricing the move at 5/1.
Newcastle are also rumoured to be interested in bringing the left-back south of the border, as Eddie Howe looks to strengthen his side ahead of a push for the European places next season.
The Magpies have been given odds of 12/1 to sign the youngster.
Arsenal are also known to be in the market for a new left back having already been linked with the likes of Aaron Hickey, Alejandro Grimaldo and Oleksandr Zinchenko and Bassey could be another option for the Gunners.
Recent news suggests that Mikel Arteta's men are in talks with Manchester City over a move for Zinchenko but Bassey would be a capable and cheaper option should they wish to save money.
Bassey moving to the Emirates Stadium next season has been priced at 16/1.
