Carl Froch told 'you didn't want it' as he's accused of ducking Joe Calzaghe super-fight by legendary boxing promoter | The Sun

FRANK WARREN has accused Carl Froch of ducking a British blockbuster with Joe Calzaghe.

Warren went on the attack following Froch's criticism of Tyson Fury, who he said purposely priced himself out of facing Oleksandr Usyk.

The Hall of Famer claimed he held a meeting with Froch to discuss the fight with Welsh legend Calzaghe only for a deal to fall through.

He told iFL TV: “Carl, I’m going to remind you now.

"You met me in the Polo lounge of the Westbury Hotel and brought down your financial advisor and we were trying to make the Joe Calzaghe fight.

"The fight everybody wanted to see – apart from you! All you kept talking about was, ;Is he going to go up in weight? When’s he going up in weight?'

"Because you didn’t want to fight him, Carl. And let me remind you about something else – did you know Tyson sold 94,000 tickets at Wembley.”

Warren's ticket sales dig comes after Fury smashed Froch's previous record of selling out 80,000 at Wembley Stadium.

But the retired former world champion hit back at the veteran matchmaker in a tweet.

Froch, 45, posted: "I was mandatory for the WBC which JC was holding. He vacated rather than fight me, pretty simple really."

Calzaghe, now 51, moved up to light-heavyweight in 2008 to fight American legends Roy Jones Jr and Bernard Hopkins, beating both.

Meanwhile, Froch won the WBC title Calzaghe vacated in the same year against Jean Pascal.

But he retired in 2014, after knocking out George Groves in their Wembley rematch.
