Carlos Sainz wins first ever race at British Grand Prix as Lewis Hamilton comes heroic third after early horror crash | The Sun

CARLOS SAINZ has won the British Grand Prix on a dramatic day at Silverstone.

The Spaniard held his nerve to prevail, while Lewis Hamilton raced brilliantly to grab a place on the podium in third.

Red Bull's Max Verstappen endured plenty of technical issues to slip to seventh, although team-mate Sergio Perez kept pushing after a difficult start and was able to profit on a late safety car to rise to second.

The beginning of the race was marred by a horrific crash involving Zhou Guanyu, sending the Chinese star skidding 20 metres upside down before flipping into the crowd.

Zhou, 23, was thankfully okay after receiving lengthy medical attention.

Sainz, 27, shook off some recent bad luck to deservedly grab his first ever win.
