Chelsea and Newcastle 'are both willing to pay Kounde's release clause but Barcelona could seal transfer for discount' | The Sun

CHELSEA and Newcastle are both reportedly willing to meet the release clause in the contract of Sevilla's Jules Kounde but Barcelona are also interested.

Barca, due to financial difficulties, may not be able to afford the £69million it will take to buy Kounde.

Therefore, Xavi's side are weighing up alternative options such as offering players as part of the deal to get a discount.

Mundo Deportivo claim full-back Sergino Dest is one man that Barcelona would be willing to send to Sevilla to help lower the fee for the centre-back.

Kounde has also reportedly expressed his desire to play for the Catalan giants over any other team.

This is bad news for Chelsea and Newcastle, as reports claim there are potential hurdles to overcome and they could be beaten in the race to sign him.

Additionally, there could be more twists to the 23-year-old's ongoing transfer saga.

In a SunSport exclusive, Sevilla have been left fuming after the Frenchman played for his national side and aggravated a pelvic injury that could risk his big money move away.

He underwent minor surgery but some fear it could damage his chances of a transfer.

Chelsea were heavily linked with Kounde last summer but a deal could not be completed.

The Blues are more desperate to bring him to Stamford Bridge this time around after losing centre-back duo Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen.

Newcastle are also interested following the £300million takeover of the club by new owners.

Eddie Howe is keen to bolster his squad and may turn his attention to Kounde with Sven Botman reportedly preferring a switch to AC Milan.
