Chelsea closing in on second summer transfer signing after triggering striker's £30m release clause | The Sun

CHELSEA are closing in on their second signing of the summer after reportedly triggering Nicolas Jackson's release clause.

The Blues will pay £30million to secure the Villarreal ace, according to Fabrizio Romano.

It was reported yesterday that Chelsea had agreed personal terms with the 21-year-old.

And following the activation of his release clause, the striker is set to become the club's second summer signing after Kanday Paez.

Romano's report adds Mauricio Pochettino's outfit will still face competition from three clubs to get the deal over the line.

However, Jackson is said to want a move to the Premier League, giving Chelsea a vital edge.

The La Liga stars contract will reportedly be in line with previous contract's dished out by Chelsea in that it will be more than five years long.

Jackson made his international debut for Senegal in November.

He has scored 12 goals and added four assists from 26 games in the Spanish top flight.

Jackson also holds a noteworthy Expected Goals overperformance of 4.0, whereas Chelsea's top league scorer Kai Havertz boasts an underperformance of -4.6.

Jackson's arrival likely comes in light of reports linking Havertz with a transfer to Arsenal.

Chelsea are embarking on a summer clear-out which is likely to see a number of senior stars such as N'Golo Kante and Mason Mount leave the club.

This began with the release of the Blues retained list, which saw £40m flop Tiemoue Bakayoko let go.

But in terms of arrivals, Chelsea appear set to win the race for Moises Caicedo, with the Brighton said to be in "final discussions" over the move.

Chelsea also have a deal for RB Leipzig's Christopher Nkunku "signed and sealed".
