CRISTIANO RONALDO has demanded Manchester United tear up his contract to allow him to leave the club on a free transfer.
The Red Devils legend is desperate to leave Old Trafford this summer in order to join a team competing in the Champions League.
United, however, have no intention of cashing in on the Portuguese superstar and are adamant he'll see out the final year of his £360,000-a-week contract.
There are reports that they even want him to EXTEND his current deal by another year – in which case they'd let him go on loan this season.
But Ronaldo has reportedly asked the club to terminate his existing deal so he can pursue a move to a team competing in Europe's elite club competition.
That's according to The Daily Mail, who claim the 37-year-old informed the club of his desire to be released from his contract in a meeting with agent Jorge Mendes on Tuesday.

Ronaldo missed United's pre-season tour of Asia and Australia but returned to training this week.
The Portugal international also missed United's behind-closed-doors pre-season friendly with Wrexham on Wednesday, although he was a spectator on the sidelines.
It's not yet known if he'll feature in the club's final pre-season friendlies against Atletico Madrid on Saturday and Rayo Vallecano on Sunday.
United haven't prepared themselves for life without Ronaldo, who made an emotional return to The Theatre of Dreams last summer.
