Cristiano Ronaldo will 'spoil his legacy' if he leaves Man Utd for rivals Chelsea in transfer, warns Steve McManaman | The Sun

STEVE McMANAMAN claims Cristiano Ronaldo will tarnish his Manchester United legacy if he moves to Chelsea.

Ronaldo has been linked with a sensational move away from Old Trafford after just one season back at the Red Devils.

McManaman reckons a switch to Chelsea will "spoil his legacy after everything he has done at Manchester United.”

The former Liverpool star told Horeracing.net: “I’d be amazed if he went to Chelsea. Amazed.

"I can’t see him going to another English team. I just cannot see it happening.”

Ronaldo is reportedly unhappy at United and is open to offers from other clubs.

However, McManaman believes a move to another Premier League club will not go down well with the United faithful.

Chelsea are now looking to pounce with a £14m bid for the unsettled 37-year-old, according to journalist Peter O'Rourke.

As revealed by SunSport on Monday, Blues owner Todd Boehly is a huge fan of Ronaldo – but boss Thomas Tuchel still needs convincing to press ahead with a move.

Ronaldo still has a year left on his Old Trafford deal but is thought to be eager to leave in order to play in the Champions League.

New manager Erik ten Hag had been keen for Ronaldo to stay and help his Old Trafford revolution.

McManaman was also asked whether he could see Ronaldo linking up with long term rival Lionel Messi.

He replied: “PSG don’t need Ronaldo. It just muddies the water.

"It might be a newspaper writer’s dream to have Messi and Ronaldo in the same team three months before the Qatar World Cup but, come on, it just seems nonsensical.”

Ronaldo is currently on indefinite leave after delaying his return to Manchester United training due to family reasons.

He had been due to return to the club's Carrington HQ on Monday to begin pre-season training and is a doubt for their pre-season trip to Thailand.
