Michael van Gerwen will return to darts action this weekend less than two weeks after undergoing surgery.
The Green Machine revealed recently that he had been suffering from carpal tunnel syndrome – pressure on the nerve in the wrist which can cause tingling and numbness in hands and fingers – and needed an operation.
Van Gerwen went under the knife straight after winning the Premier League in thrilling fashion in Berlin earlier this month. As a result, he missed the World Cup of Darts, with his place in the Netherlands line-up going to Dirk van Duijvenbode, who reached the semi-finals alongside Danny Noppert.

Van Gerwen had said he wanted to be in peak physical condition by the time of World Matchplay in Blackpool, which starts on July 16. But he will be back in action three weeks before then after confirming his place at this weekend’s Dutch Masters in Amsterdam, part of the World Series of Darts.
With a picture of him practising, he tweeted: "Looking forward to returning this weekend in Amsterdam for the @viaplaysportnl Dutch Darts Masters. A gentle practice today. Thank you for all the messages about my operation all went very well.”
The other PDC representatives at the Dutch Masters, which starts on Friday, will be Peter Wright, Gerwyn Price, Fallon Sherrock, James Wade, Michael Smith, Jonny Clayton and Dimitri Van den Bergh, who won the last World Series event in Denmark earlier this month. The Dutch contingent will include Noppert, Van Duijvenbode and Vincent van der Voort.

Speaking about his injury before his operation, Van Gerwen said: “It’s not really when I’m playing darts but during the day, 20, 30, maybe 50 times, I get tingling in my hands. That’s really annoying, it’s not really painful, but it’s annoying, really annoying,” he told Online Darts TV.
“It’s probably been 18 months. I’ve had several treatments towards it, two injections. It [the operation] has to be done, now it’s time to have it done. When it comes up again and again you need to resolve it permanently.”
