Darts ace Dirk van Duijvenbode has admitted he suffered a wrist injury in the bizarre fashion.
Van Duijvenbode, who represented the Netherlands at the World Cup of Darts after replacing Michael van Gerwen, is renowned as one of the most exuberant celebrators in the sport. Before matches, the Dutchman loves to race to the stage amid hardcore dance music and whip up the crowd.
However, he has revealed he took his celebrations too far on one occasion, injuring his wrist while fist-pumping which meant he couldn’t practice for a spell up until recently.

“Already three weeks [since the injury], but it is at the end. I could not practice well, but I am almost rid of it,” he told TOTO Darts Kings, as quoted by dartsnews.com after his 6-3 victory over Chris Dobey at this weekend’s Hungarian Darts Trophy.
“It happened in the summer break. It happened fist-pumping and I went a bit too hard. [It] can happen.”
Thankfully for Van Duijvenbode, it didn’t happen at a critical time of the year and he has had chance to rest ahead of the flurry of major events in the final third of the year.

"The summer break was also used to recharge the batteries a bit towards the autumn, especially mentally,” he added.
“A few weeks off [from darts], but of course, I am still working [van Duijvenbode is an aubergine farmer by trade]. I took two weeks off. After the Pro Tours [events in early August] I went on holiday immediately.”
Van Duijvenbode’s victory over Dobey booked him a place in the third round, which will take place on Sunday afternoon.
