Darts player produces ‘checkout of the year’ to leave commentator gobsmacked

Jarred Cole's checkout of the year contender at the MODUS Super Series delighted commentator Chris Mason.

Mason, a two-time world championship semi-finalist, was in the commentary booth as 23-year-old Cole took on Bradly Roes in Group A of series 5 which took place on September 27. Leading 3-2 in the race to four, the King of the Castle needed 160 but didn't like how his first dart blocked the remainder of the treble twenty.

Mason then pointed out to viewers that a checkout was possible without the highest scoring segment – by putting two darts in the bull. Cole then did the improbable to secure the most impressive of checkouts – to the delight of both the commentator and fans.

Mason said: "He's going to go bull, bull… OH MY GOODNESS. Absolutely outstanding from Jarred Cole, you may see that at the odd exhibition but that was far from an exhibition shot."

The post from MODUS said: "CHECKOUT OF THE YEAR! We have just witnessed the greatest checkout hit on this stage!"

One fan said: "Legitimately one of the best checkouts I’ve ever seen." A second added: "This is pure filth. Checkout of the Year contender?"

Cole, who has been playing darts since 2015 and uses 23g Target darts, spent six years on the PDC circuit before rejoining the WDF tour last year.

His career highlights include two wins on the PDC Development Tour and a run to the last 16 of the WDF World Darts Championship in 2022.

The bull, bull finish might well be impressive, but stranger things have happened on the PDC tour.

Competing against old rival Peter Wright at the 2018 Melbourne Darts Masters, Michael van Gerwen found time for a bit of flair despite heading for a semi-final defeat.

Mighty Mike stepped up with 206 on the scoreboard with Wright coming back for 32 to take the victory, and his last visit was an extremely stylish one. Stepping up with purpose – MVG slotted all three darts into the centre of the bullseye.
