England captain Harry Kane feeling 'great' at Tottenham after celebrating a decade since his Premier League debut | The Sun

HARRY KANE feels in a “great place” at Tottenham after celebrating ten years since his Premier League debut.

It was a decade ago on Thursday that the then teenager, sporting the No37 shirt, came off the bench for the final four minutes of Spurs’ 2-1 defeat at Newcastle.

What followed has been one of the greatest careers in modern top-flight history, with Kane smashing in 184 goals in just 281 games.

He has won the Premier League golden boot award no fewer than three times and has Alan Shearer’s all-time record haul of 260 goals in his sights.

But for all the personal accolades, a trophy still eludes the England captain, which was a major factor in his agitating for a move to Manchester City last summer.

Yet he now seems content at Spurs playing under Antonio Conte, with a possibility of a new contract in the offing.

Kane, now synonymous with Tottenham’s No10 top, said: “I feel comfortable, I feel in a great place physically and mentally.

“I think we’ve got a really good squad, we’ve got a fantastic manager.

“We’ve been moving in the right direction, from the back end of last year to now. I’m really excited about what’s to come.

“We know it’s going to be a long season with the World Cup in the middle of it. It’s going to be a marathon this year for sure. I’m excited for it.

“I’m excited for what we can do and I know if we can keep improving, we can have a really good season.”

Kane has been boosted by the seven new faces Tottenham have recruited this summer.

He looked sharp and focused in a prolific pre-season, and netted his first goal of the campaign with a dramatic equaliser in the sixth minute of injury time to make it 2-2 at Chelsea on Sunday.

Conte hailed the centre-forward as being the first player in the Spurs’ squad to buy into his methods when speaking before the season-opener against Southampton.

And the Italian praised Kane for being a good example to the rest of his squad when discussing the striker’s ten-year milestone ahead of Saturday's hosting of Wolves.

Conte added: “For sure, he is one of the best strikers that I had in my career as a coach.

“The characteristic that hit me about Harry is that he has great talent, he is a number nine but at the same time can become a number 10 during the game.

“But what I love about him is the desire, the will to work and to be a good example for his team-mates.

“I appreciate that a lot, I love it, to see a player, a world class striker to be a good example.

“Because if you have this type of example it is more simple with you to work with the rest of the players.”

Meanwhile, Conte confirmed key defender Cristian Romero will miss the Wolves game with an adductor problem.

But there was positive news on Oliver Skipp, who suffered a gruesome foot injury in an accidental training collision before the season started which required stitches.

The England Under-21 midfielder, who was sidelined for the second half of last season with a pelvic problem, is out of the Wolves clash but is due to start running again on Friday.

Conte added: “I hope this player will be a bit lucky because since January he started to have a problem. But I think hopefully he will be ready quickly.

“We need his performance, he’s a really good guy, and for sure he’s suffering a lot to stay outside, but I think for the period where we have to play a lot of games he will be available, which is really good news for us.”
