England vs Germany head-to-head: Lionesses out to reverse wretched record against Germans and win Euros | The Sun

ENGLAND are just one game away from making history.

Sarina Wiegman's side earned a place in the final of Euro2022 on Tuesday when they secured a sensational 4-0 win over Sweden.

However, they will now face one of their biggest rivals in the final, which will take place this Sunday at Wembley Stadium.

The Lionesses are preparing to take on the most successful nation in the tournament's history – Germany, who have eight European Championship titles while England are yet to claim one.

It has been 13 years since England last reached a European final, but this week they will be looking to avenge the devastating 6-2 defeat to the Germans which was suffered in 2009.

But to do that, they will have to put an end to a poor run of results.

England have won just two of their last 12 fixtures against Germany, with their most recent victory coming in a friendly earlier this year.

Since that day in February, the team have continued to strengthen and improve under the management of Wiegman.

The Lionesses have won every game so far in the competition, scoring 20 goals and conceding just one.

And they are now favourites to go on and win the whole tournament in front of a sold-out Wembley crowd.

Individual accolades are also set to be determined on Sunday with England's Beth Mead and Germany's Alexandra Popp both battling it out for the golden boot.

Mead is likely to start the match with Wiegman, who won the competition in 2017 with Netherlands, expected to name an unchanged starting line-up.

The Dutch manager has kept the starting line-up exactly the same throughout the tournament to maintain momentum.

She has also used the same substitutes in every game with the likes of Alessia Russo, Chloe Kelly, Alex Greenwood and Ella Toone coming off the bench to make an impact in the second half.
