LEWIS HAMILTON has shown off some photos of him while on holiday, and surprised fans with a new hairdo.

The Formula One star, 37, has been enjoying the mid-season break in Africa.

And the latest photos he published on his Instagram page have caused quite a stir among his fandom – gaining over 1.1 million likes in less than a day.

Hamilton posted a number of photos from the Reteti Animal Sanctuary in Kenya – whose work he described as "an inspiration" – where he could be seen petting a baby giraffe and baby elephant.

But it was the seven-time World Champion's new hair which got fans really talking.

"Your hair looks amazing, champs!" wrote one user, as Hamilton showed off his new curly look.

This season Hamilton initially struggled to adapt to the new era of car design, which is meant to allow cars to participate in closer racing.

He and his team, Mercedes, started the year poorly and initially struggled to deal with a phenomenon known as porpoising, which reduced their car's pace.

Despite this, research and development has paid dividends for Hamilton and team-mate George Russell, who have scored double podium finishes in the last two races.

As it stands, Hamilton has very little chance of catching current World Champion Max Verstappen, who continues to capitalise on Ferrari's numerous errors in their bid for a world title.

Mercedes sit just 30 points off of Ferrari despite having a far slower car throughout most of the season, with Hamilton now just 10 points off of Carlos Sainz Jr. following podium finishes five races in a row.
