Fans fume at UEFA as they allow drinks at stadiums but ONLY if no cap!

‘Why take the bottle lids? And why charge £2.50 for soft drinks that are warm?!’: Supporters fume at UEFA for only allowing fans to enter stadiums with drinks if they have no cap for remaining Women’s Euros group-stage games, amid UK heatwave

  • The Women’s Euros, which is ongoing in England, group stage ends on July 18
  • The UK is experiencing a heatwave with Met Office giving weather warnings
  • UEFA’s announcement on Monday has angered many fans on social media

UEFA have incurred the wrath of supporters once more with their latest development at the ongoing Women’s Euros.

This summer’s championships are being staged in England – with the country currently experiencing a heatwave.

The Met Office has issued an extreme weather warning with temperatures expected to climb to 34 degrees Celsius on Monday afternoon.

Fans attending matches at the remaining Women’s Euros group games are allowed to take a bottle of water with them into matches as UEFA try to aid them combatting the UK heatwave

However, fans are not allowed to have a lid on their bottle – angering many on social media

The rare amber alert is used to warn people of potential health and transport issues caused by the heat – with the Met Office advising people to stay indoors where possible and to drink plenty of fluid to cope with the heat.

As a result of the soaring temperatures, UEFA announced on Monday that fans will be allowed to take water bottles with them into stadiums for the remaining group stage clashes which end on July 18. This means fans will be allowed to do so starting when Austria face Northern Ireland at St. Mary’s Stadium (5pm KO) in Southampton before tournament hosts England take on Norway at the AMEX Stadium in Brighton (8pm KO).

However, European football’s governing body has stipulated that they must be clear and without bottle lids.

‘Due to prolonged high temperatures across the UK, fans will be permitted to bring a single clear disposable water bottle (up to 500ml) to the remaining group stage matches,’ their ticketing account tweeted.

‘Bottle lids will be removed by stewards upon entry to the stadium.’

UEFA’s stance has enraged fans on social media, with many blasting the impracticalities of that and the price of a bottled water at matches.

‘Great… but why are you taking the lids? Folks just have to sit with an open bottle for two hours?’ questioned one account.

‘Why take the bottle lids? And why charge £2 for water and £2.50 for soft drinks that are warm?!’ wrote another.

‘Maybe don’t charge £2.50 per bottle of water either…’ complained another.

Another queried: ‘It is very difficult for young children to carry bottles for that length of time without dropping or spilling the contents. Can you allow closed containers for children?’
