LIVERPOOL fans hailed Martin Skrtel for his bravery after he suffered a nasty head injury in their legends clash with Manchester United.

The centre-back returned to Anfield for the first time since his 2016 move to Fenerbahce for the Reds' charity match with their fierce rivals.



But he ended up going for an early shower following a nasty clash of heads with Frazier Campbell in the second half of the friendly.

Skrtel was applauded off the pitch as he was replaced by Mohamed Sissoko and received heaps of praise on social media.

One fan tweeted: "Martin Skrtel. Still a warrior."

Another said: "Martin Skrtel, has and will always be a fighter and a warrior."

Some Reds fans were more concerned by the once-bald Skrtel returning to Merseyside with a full head of hair.

One tweeted: "Martin Skrtel having a full head of hair is freaking me out, it’s not natural."

Another said: "Martin Skrtel didn't have hair during his playing days but has a lot of it now for the Liverpool legends!? Crazy."

The recently-retired Skrtel said of his Anfield departure: "It was never close enough because I stayed in Liverpool.

"I don't regret it because I played here for eight-and-a-half years and it was the best time of my career and in my life because my son was born here.

"Liverpool will always be in my heart. It's not easy to stay in a club like this for such a long time so I'm proud of that."

"I was happy in the club and the club were also happy because we extended the contract two or three times.
