ROBERT MACINTYRE will be out to show his liking for another Ryder Cup course as he spearheads the French Open field at Le Golf National in Paris.
It is surely asking too much of the young Scot to follow up last week’s play-off triumph over Matthew Fitzptarick in Rome, which must have been mentally exhausting.
But he still disputes favouritism with LIV rebel Patrick Reed, who has not exactly been setting the world alight on the breakaway tour.
With a distinct lack of big names in action – and not much course form to go on, as the French Open has been cancelled because of the Covid regulations for the past two years – this is a tough one to puzzle out.
But that also means there are some decent prices available – and the same thing applies to this week’s Presidents Cup, where the individual points scoring markets offer good value.

Tips for French Open
Hot shot: Victor Perez, 20-1
The Frenchman was inches away from joining Robert MacIntyre and Matt Fitzpatrick in the Italian Open play-off, with his birdie putt shaving the hole on the 72nd hole. On that form he should be up there again, at a course he knows better than most.
Perez bagged his second DP World Tour victory earlier this year at the Dutch Open, and is looking more and more like the player who won the Dunhill Links in 2019, and finished sixth on the European money list a year later.
His third place finish in Rome was his second podium finish since that victory in Holland four months ago. He is a much better player than the one who finished a respectable tied 16th the last time his national Open was staged, in 2019.
Mid price: Yannik Paul, 80-1.
The young German went into the notebook as one to watch this year after finishing runner-up in last year’s Challenge Tour grand final – the winner, Marcu Helligkilde, also made the list, but he is taking a week off.
Paul almost made the breakthrough when he was runner-up to Sam Horsfield at the Soudal Open in Belgium, and four top twenties since then – in better company than this week’s field – suggest he is not far off a first win.
Paul is certainly not short of confidence. He took time out to contest the Korn Ferry Tour finals, finishing a decent enough 17th, and a final round 66 at the Italian Open should set him up nicely for this.

Long shot: Matthieu Pavon, 100-1.
I am normally reluctant to side with home players in national Opens, because of the extra pressure it brings, and Pavon is the second Frenchman to get the nod. But course knowledge could prove vital over the 2018 Ryder Cup course in Paris.
Pavon has had a good season without really lighting the touchpaper, although he looked ready to ignite when he finished in the top ten at Wentworth a couple of weeks ago.
He saved his best golf for late in the season last year, with a runner-up finish in Portugal, a close 12th in the Dunhill Links, and two more top twenties. He could be worth following over the coming weeks.
And one for the President’s Cup: top International points scorer, K.H.Lee, 14-1.
With the Americans expected to romp home against an International team ravaged by the loss of star players to LIV, this category may not take much winning.
Lee, who successfully defended his Byron Nelson Classic title this year, was one of only five members of the International team to make it to the 30-man Tour Championship.
He struggled in Atlanta, but has taken a break to get ready for this, and should see plenty of action, especially after an impressive top five finish at the BMW Championship a week earlier.
At more than double the odds of team-mates such as Hideki Matsuayama, Sungjae Im and J.H.Kim, Lee looks a sporting bet, especially with the bookies paying each way for the top three.
