Jack Grealish has signed the most lucrative boot contract ever handed to a British footballer by becoming the face of Puma.

The Manchester City winger had worn Nike since he was a teenager but the US giant were powerless to prevent him from leaving.

Nike sources believe that Grealish, who is one of the most marketable players in the Premier League, has penned a deal worth around £10million a season for five years at Puma.

The manufacturer were unwilling to match the finances and have a larger roster of athletes, with Puma able to offer a more bespoke branding package to the 27-year-old.

Grealish sits alongside Neymar and Antoine Griezmann as the biggest talent at Puma, who have now completed their first blockbuster deal with a City player since agreeing a kit deal with the club in 2019. Manager Pep Guardiola has been an ambassador for the past four years.

The Man City star is said to have landed a deal ‘worth considerably more’ than his Nike deal

The likes of Gareth Bale and Harry Kane were towards the top of highest earners for boot deals at around £3m a season, while both Nike and Adidas are keen on landing City striker Erling Haaland.

‘We want to make Jack one of the most important brand faces in football and culture,’ said Johan Adamsson, Head of Sports Marketing at Puma Global.

‘His position opens up opportunities to work with many of our fashion initiatives and to collaborate with him on his many personal causes.’

Grealish – one of City’s most consistent performers this year – is also a prominent ambassador for Gucci and Bose, with his appeal attracting significant marketing interest.

The England international is now desperate to lift the Champions League with City.

‘I’ve got a Premier League medal but I want to win as many trophies as possible and be successful here at City,’ he said.

‘When I was young (my dream) was to play for Aston Villa. Once I conquered that I had another dream, then another one.

‘It was never really to play at a World Cup, it was just to play for Villa, then score for Villa, then the next thing, then it turned to playing for England, then playing at the Euros, at the World Cup, scoring at the World Cup.

‘Luckily enough, I’ve been fortunate to have done all of those. Next in line would be to win a major trophy with the national team, and the Champions League.’
