A female baseball fan went to hilariously extreme lengths to beat her male counterparts to a ball at Citi Field on Monday night.

During the first of the New York Mets’ three-game series against the Cubs, Chicago’s Francisco Lindor hit a foul ball into stands which were largely left empty following a lengthy rain delay.

Some fans decided to stick around in the wet conditions, however, and when Lindor stuck the ball into the crowd two male spectators rushed through the empty seats to search for it.

Yet as the pair scratched their heads as to where it ended up, one quick-thinking female fan came racing through after spotting the ball, before diving through the seats and almost flipping over at a 90-degree angle to retrieve it.

It was an incredible execution from the supporter, who puffed out her arms in celebration after finding Lindor’s foul ball.

And she has earned praise from fans on social media, with one writing: ‘What a gamer. Props to her’.

Another commented: ‘SHE REALLY wanted that ball’.

A third put: ‘Love the commitment. Ladies take notes’.

While one said: ‘Good for her – Was worth it staying the long rain delay’.

The Mets withstood the long rain delay to snap a six-game losing streak with an 11-rout of the Cubs on Monday night.

Pete Alonso homered in consecutive at-bats while also tying a career high with six RBIs, with Kodai Senga also allowing two runs and seven hits in six innings.

‘That’s just a complete team win,’ Alonso said.

The Mets (51-61) avoided matching their longest skid this season in their first home outing since trading Justin Verlander, Mark Canha and Tommy Pham at last week’s deadline.

For the Cubs, meanwhile, who lost only for the fifth time in 20 games, Cody Bellinger hit two RBI singles as they entered leading the majors in batting average (.296) since the All-Star break.
